  • Hi GMC-ers!

In this lesson we'll discuss the C-minor scale and we'll hear a lesson in it's three positions.(III.VII.X.)This is a good opportunity to learn a minor scale on the guitar in three positioons. In addition it's important to observe the inherenece between the C minor and C pentatonic scale. Let's take the pentatonic as basic scale and let's see what are that two added notes that the minor scale is extended with. Let' see it at the VII. and the III. frets as well.

In usualy the pentatonic or the blues scale is enough to play a great solo, but there will be styles where the knowledge of the complete minor scale is absolutely needed.
In the beginning of the lesson you can hear a classic hard rock riff, on which we play the first part of the solo, then during the second part it will change a bit, but henceforward we will stay in C-minor. The first part starts from a simple C-pentatonic, then this will expand with notes of the C minor. In the 11. and 12. bar at the slide part we'll play the same C- minor, but an octave hiherl at the X. fret. With a shifting we'll continue at the III. fret with a small scale exercise. We will get to the VII with a run from here and the whole lesson will end with an octave solo.

Below are some diagrams showing the differences between the C minor and the C pentatonic scale.

    Have fun!
