  • Hi guys!

Dallton Santos here, I´m going to teach you a rock fusion lick. Hope you'll enjoy it and that it will help you develop your skills!

When playing rock fusion stuff I always like to put notes out of the scale. That´s an effect, and sounds pretty good.
The goal is to mix inside notes with outside notes and make everything musical.

As you can see, in my style of playing I do many legato runs. Feel free to study this lick in the way you are more familiar. If you are the kind of guitarist that shreds with alternate picking, go ahead! It will sound great too.

Well, this lick is for A7 dominant chords. I made the backing track sound more hard rock, because I want to show the possibility to apply outside lines over styles not necessary fusion, and how it can sound cool!

This also works over A7 alt 5th or 9th.

    About the scales

I used the A mixolydian scale:

    A B C# D E F# G

Conected these 2 shapes, here they are:

    And added some out notes.

    D# (4th augmented)
    G# (7th augmented)
    F (6th minor)
    Bb# (9th minor)

Now let´s jump to Part 1 and start learning the lick!
