Artificial harmonics are produced as a result of various playing techniques. Pinch harmonics are one type of artificial harmonics and can be achieved by holding down a note with the fretting hand and plucking the string of that note while touching it with your thumb. The resulting sound is a harmonic tone that is otherwise not accessible on the guitar.
