History of the Band Image:chilipeppers.jpg

The Red Hott Chili Peppers are a funk rock/ alternative rock band that was founded in 1983 in Los Angeles, California. Orignally the band was founded by Anthony Kiedis and Michael " Flea" Balzary. Anthony was just a poet/ singer songwriter, and Flea was the bassist. Little did they know it but the combination of exotic bass rhythmes and a creative flow of artistic rhymes was a recipe for future success. In the early days, the band consisted of Anthony, Flea, Hillel Slovak(guitar) and Jack Irons (drums). Hillel Slovak later died of a unexpected heroin overdose. This traumatized the band and resulted in Irons resigning. Throughout the years various guitarist's such as Jack Sherman, Dave Navarro (Janes Addiction), DeWayne "Blackbyrd" McKnight have all played with RHCP. However, John Frusciante has remained loyal to the Peppers as a lead guitarist for quite some years. He did briefly leave the band due to drug problems but then did rejoin the band later.
