As Darius said I you feel comfortable using 4th finger just do it! When I play some impro/blues stuff I like to use 3 finger, but when I play a strictly technical exercises I try to focus on my fingers, I think of fingering efficiency and playing comfort.
Darius Wave6th December 2013I think Piotr same as many blues players (including Gary) kept very popular 3 fingers left hand shapes. But...it was sort of natural. I You feel much more comfortable using 4th then You could go for it. Just make sure it doesn't create any random issues with choosen licks.

I noticed you don't use the fourth finger in a lot of spots, and rely on more of a third finger slide. Is it acceptable to use the fourth finger? Thanks. Fun ballad.

Hi all! Welcome to my Ballad & Blues lesson in the style of Gary Moore. I know that there were many great lessons in this style on GMC, but I couldn't stop to make one.
Gary Moore is the one of my favourite guitarists. His playing is very emotional, full of great vibrato and beautiful melodies - just amazing!
Lesson is set up in 2 parts:
First (ballad) part, time signature is 4/4,
Second (blues) part, time signature is 6/8
I used mostly A minor scale with some blue notes in second part.
chord progression in
-ballad part:
Am, Dm/B, E, Am(Am/G), Fmaj7, Dm/B, E, Am
Am, Dm/B, E, Am(Am/G), D/F#, G, E, Am
Dm7, Dm7/G, Cmaj7, D/F#
Fmaj7, G
-blues part:

We are going to use:
- vibrato,
- alternate picking,
- Gary Moore style licks
This is the preset I used for the POD XT live for this lesson:
