"It Might Get Loud" is one I highly recommend. Jimmy Page, The Edge and Jack White discussing electric guitar, great stuff!!

It really is great. A lot of clips on youtube as well. Being a Jimmy Page fan I found it fascinating to hear him discuss his past and how he found the guitar. So many great scenes with him in the movie... I think I might watch it again tonight smile.gif

PS: I started a thread a while back in the bands and guitarist section about this movie. Have some clips in it from the film.

I don't know if it counts, but not much ago I saw the "Chaos In Motion" documentary of Dream Theater, about the recordings session of their "Systematic Chaos" album. It is really interesting to see them how they record and you can get a lot of tips from them to work in a band. I found it really really interesting

A great documentay film about Latin Jazz is CALLE 54 by Fernando Trueba.
There's also the "classic" Buena Vista Social Club by Wim Wenders .

I watched some of the "Classic Album" DVDs. Maiden, Motorhead, Pink Floyd, Priest, very interesting stuff.

Oohhh, there's a lot of stuff. Marvin Gaye's documentary is most interesting. Also the documentary bout Robert Johnson where a guy searching for his grave is very good. This topic is very interesting, and I have to check my tapes and return, since I have loads of this stuff laying around.

"How music works", 4-part BBC documentary! Literally, what is harmony, melody, rhythm, sound. Each part covers different topic. What I like the most about this doc, is that it's not only about classical music, with equal importance author talks about Rap, Hip&Hop, jazz, metal, rock, latin..... The thing is that author is some major classical pianist and professor. Really fascinating. I watched it several times already! smile.gif

Was amazing !

I may be off topic a bit but do you know anything similar to this !?!

Not necessarily video. Books, websites (not wikipedia stuff) any material that takes you from the roots to present, from basic to complex (like this movie does).

Thank you.

I found recently documentary on youtube, also BBC I think, about guy wgi wants to write orchestra piece, but has never touched musical instrument. He enters the musical academy, and they teach him everything, solfeggio, harmony, piano, singing, rhythm.
I mean, methodology is amazing, they are working with him like with child smile.gif, more talking and clapping, and singing then touching the piano.
I couldn't believe, like, he must first learn to distinguish major chord from minor, he talks with musicians, methodology is so progressive and intuitive, really worth watching. I think is called "So you want to become composer" or similar, search a youtube a bit.

Yeah, the guy is 50 years old biggrin.gif
