I guess my story is pretty similar to Bear's: I finally asked for lessons because of a cool friend who supposedly knew how to play. However, there's a little more to it:
- I've actually owned a guitar longer than I can remember. I don't know when this busted old classical guitar showed up in my childhood bedroom but it seemed like it was "always there." I'd sit it flat on my lap and play whatever sounded good to me, even though the thing only had three strings on it. I assume this is why, long after, I was always told by musicians that I have "good rhythm" - I've always loved making things. Building (legos, blocks), drawing, painting, writing, music, programming, whatever. If there was an instrument nearby, I would certainly want to play it even if I was too shy to ask. If it was a guitar, I was less willing since it was a thing to pick up and hold. A piano, on the other hand, seemed less rude to just sit down and play upon. After relating all of that, I'm going to have to telephone my mother and ask if she remembers where that old guitar came from. I hope she can recall because it's really making me curious now. -------------------- ::jafomatic

It would be very cool to know where that guitar did come from. If you find out, let us know! I called her just after I posted and she wasn't sure where that guitar could've come from. It took a little describing and explaining but once she remembered it clearly enough she did have a theory. The house I grew up in was kinda large, a 4-story brownstone in downtown Philadelphia. Mom & Dad used to rent rooms to folks on the top two floors and we lived on the ground & second story. She suggests that one of their friends that rented a room up there when I was very very small may have left it behind or gifted it to me/us when I was just a baby. That's about the best explanation we're likely to get unless she happens to get a postcard or phone call from folks that we haven't seen in almost 40 years. -------------------- ::jafomatic

In one of my sister's birthday, she got an electric guitar as a gift.
Well, as she started to play, I started aswell, asking myself why I never really wanted to play before that. |

I can relate to Rebecca, as I used to play the piano a lot. And having started guitar it is a great way to get the heavy moments across.
