Check that they are wired correctly. And check what pot's you should use. Also check that all pots are OK. A damaged pot can give really weird results. I had something similar when a pot was bad.

Check the above manuals or consult a local Luther..They should not charge much for a pickup change and they have the experience needed.

Maybe you connected the wires wrong? Did you follow the exact instructions from the diagram?
