ISSUE 2 IS NOW SOLVED!

1: Bought wife a cheap and cheerful refurbished Dell with Win10. Set it up, everything went fine until I tried to use the Belkin Wireless adaptor. I have two of them and on my own main pc Win10 detected it and I connected to the www immediately. This time, no no no. Wondrous can see it, drivers not available. Downloaded the correct drivers to USB stick from my pc, installed and plugged in adaptor when asked, NADA. IT SAYS SETUP NOT FINISHED, CONNECT TO INTERNET. How the F*** am I supposed to connect to the freakin' Internet??? Just don't know what to do. I've built and setup loads of computers but can't get this going.

2: got the 2nd Gen Scarlett. I thought it would be a straight swap. No no no. Got to register the product, the old Scarlett mix control doesn't recognise the new one. So I thought "okay, let's register". The Focusrite Web site says that the serial number is incorrect, tried it LOADS of times, nothing, NADA.

Complete waste of an evening and probably this coming weekend.

So is the scarlett just acting like a mixer? E.g. The xlr from the helix go in to scarlett and out to monitors and headphones? While the scarlett is NOT connected via usb at all? Is that the setup? I"m still a bit vague on it I'm sure you've probably been through it with me several times. Just can't seem to visualize it.

Mertay, seemed to think that little volume knob was an audio card or somehow passed audio through it. I didn't seem able to explain to him that it was just a peripheral, like a mouse. Audio does not pass through a usb mouse, but the mouse can raise and lower any software controllable volume. The knob is the same, raises and lowers software controlable volume. I don't know how else to explain it but I don't think it made sense based on his replies. Such is life on the interwebs.
I'm curious to see how the new scarlett works, but it sounds like it's not going great right away. Is this one actually connected usb to the computer? Your helix feeds it via xlr which is where I'm getting confused on signal chain. Sorry the new one doesn't seem to be a quick swap.

The one bad thing about that knob is that it doesn't act like a mixer, so it won't do separate headphone and speaker volume as it's not a sound card. A little mixer would do separate level for main output to monitors and separate output to heaphones though, even when not connected via usb. Just using the xlr inputs from the helix and putting the mixer in between helix and monitors. That way you get a fader for master volume and you get another control for heaphone output. Best of all, it won't cause any issues on exporting as it won't be connected via usb. Only your helix will be connected and it can live on the floor where it is.

Unless of course I'm completely missing what you are trying to do smile.gif

Maybe the motherboard etc. (other hardware) isn't win 10 compatible, try updating other drivers too.

Ask about that to the store as you have a limited time to return it. I remember focusrite had a live web service you once used? cause e-mail flow specially now its weekend might be a too slow response.

Sorry to hear such annoying problems, on such days I immediately take a break (if I can) and return with a cool-clear head.

This is the new Scarlett I got yesterday to see if it still gets the freezing after rendering.

Helix XLR left and right into the front of the Scarlett. Sure SM57 into front of Scarlett for acoustic recording or mic'd up amp. USB connection allows mix control to function which isn't vital but useful. Headphones are permanently connected to the front, I just have to press the mute button when I want to use them, they have their own volume control. My monitors are also connected to the Scarlett.

UPDATE:
Scarlett is now working and the freeze doesn't happen. The serial number issue was a weird one. I initially entered the serial number incorrectly. After that I entered it correctly but when I clicked in the "Purchase date" section, it was putting the original incorrect number into the serial number box. Very odd and I didn't notice last night because my head was spinning trying to sort out my wife's computer at the same time.

MY COMPUTER DOESN'T FREEZE AFTER RENDERING NOW smile.gif

Cheers.

Glad this is settled laugh.gif I also made a quick search and read new gen.s have lower latency and better cpu handling, so this problem sort of resolved in an overall upgrade for you which is a nice bonus too smile.gif

Working on issue 1 this morning, I found someone with the same problem on the Belkin support forum. Belkin had answered them and said that their products aren't designed for Win10. Looking at the drivers, they only support up to Win7. What is really odd is that I run one on my Win10 desktop. The only difference is that the Win10 on my desktop is an upgrade from Windows 7 or 8. Could there be something left over that is allowing it to work?

Cheers

I think windows gives a compatibility option when you go to the programs preferences, I have win7 but likely win10 has this too. Maybe thats how you solved that in the past?

I can't remember but I'm not getting anything, I even copied the actual driver file from the system folder, didn't work. I've ordered a new adaptor now, that is certified with Win10. Be here tomorrow. Fingers crossed it works wink.gif
