I am Russian who lives in Latvia. So I will write about bands from both countries
 Latvia Well, I don't know much about Latvian music, but some bands are pretty awesome here My favorite band would probably be Prāta Vētra (Brainstorm). Here is the most popular song of them, but you should check out some more Here is Latvian pagan metal bands that might be known abroad as they were in Wacken 2008 Skyforger Here my knowlege in Latvian rock and metal ends  Russia There is a very big rock scene in Russia and I don't know if at least one band is known abroad. Probably not... The band wich introduced metal to me and was the first music I was intrested in is Aria. It is very popular band in Russia. They play Heavy Metal. They singer left the band and started a solo career. Here is the video with new singer. Here is the video of their old singer's solo stuff This song is a big hit here.Gorky Park was a great band and if I am not mistaken they are well known abroad King and Jester (Король и Шут) play horror punk, recently they released an album in the genre wich they call art punk (Perhaps there will be too many videos in the post, so I will post links) A song from their latest album.A song from older albums. Lumen. A great band with really good lyrics. One of my favorite songs Slot. I don't really listen to them, but they are great too. Love the chorus here. Here goes russian rock legend. His songs became classic now Viktor Tsoi Russian folk metal. Arkona More bands: Amatory Fear Factor Agatha Christie Alice DDT Zemfira Okay, I think it is enoght I hope you will find time to check at least half of them :D

As for sweden i don't know really..
I'm sure we have alot of death metal bands that are pretty unknown, since death metal together with power metal are our main music (Well, that i like).
