You can get an atonal scale using whole tones only.
so in one string you would play frets: 0 - 2 - 4- 6 -8 -10- 12 -14 -16 -18- 20 And there you have the whole tone, atonal scale, (Because it doesn't belong to any key, because all distances are the same) rearrange the notes on the other strings and you'll notice that you'll get very symmetric patterns when doing this -------------------- Visit my:

that's one example.
Another can be only doing minor triads: so in one string you would have: 0 -3 -6 -9 -12 -15 -18 or another with major triads: 0 - 4 - 8 - 12 -16 -20 These all sound atonal.
