Hey GMC'ers
 2 questions on recording 1. I was wondering how to connect your guitar with PC to record one or a few tracks? 2. Which software should I buy or is there good freeware on internet? equipment: Guitar ESP LTD VIPER Amps Peavey Bandit 112 / Marshall JCM 2000 TSL 100 Boss GT6 guitareffects Mixer Behringer UB1202 2 microphone Laptop: Line in , microphone -------------------- Guitartonemaster.com - +2500 free guitar jam- & backing tracks -

What I do, And what alot of instructors and GMC'ers do is use usually a MultiFx/Modeler like the Pod X3, Pod XT, Etc. And you connect using a USB Cord from the pedal to the computer, and all you do is plug in the guitar to the pedal, and your set, Very easy to set up.
As for freeware recording software, Nothing beats Reaper, Multi Track with VST's and a bunch of effects. http://www.reaper.fm |

Toneport GX + reaper will do the trick nicely, that's what I use.

You'll need only a good soundcard. Since you already have quality equipment, I don't really recommend audio interfaces. Buy yourself a decent quality audio card like Emu 1212m or 0404 and plug in that JCM2000 or Boss Processor. This should be quite good trust me.

I am using Pro Tools in connection with Guitar Rig 3 here at home, Pro Tools comes with its own audio Interface, so I don't have to worry about this.

My podXT has been collecting dust for little over 6 months now. Reason be I bought a new computer with Vista x64 and for some unknown, astronomically stupid reason Line6 still hasn't gotten their thumbs out to write some 64-bits drivers. This is driving me, and a lot of other people, crazy. Line6 is currently developing drivers for x64 OS', only a couple of years too late. My whole point is don't buy Line6 gear if you want to record your guitar on your PC in the nearest months, provided you use 64-bits OS'. Are you, on the other hand, using XP or 32-bits Vista I can recommend a podXT or POD X3 (haven't tried it yet but I can't imagine it not being an improvement from the XT model) since it's a solid and very good product apart from not being supported on all platforms. Good point, of course you have to make sure that there are proper drivers for your operational system, I had the same problem when I bought a new laptop that came with vista, and Pro tools did not offer support for vista yet.

One minor note - Reaper is unlimited shareware and if you use it a lot or use it for commercial purposes you need to buy a license

Also ProTools is top notch DAW solution - industry standard. But quite expensive.

I see on the website of digidesign there are two versions.
What's the differents between Pro Tools LE 7.4 and Pro Tools HD 7.4?  Pio Jr.

Yeah toneport and other line6 stuff currently doesn't support VISTA 64bit systems..But I saw on their web site that drivers are in development and that its just matter of month or two for them to come out..
I had to reinstall windows XP to continue using the toneport
