Try to start with humbucker pickup, and use Marshall emulation, put medium to hi gain distortion on it, and lower down the bass, so you get a crunchy mid-himid-treble almost EVH type of tone. Then play the original song, and tweak the EQ until you get it close, and add some effects. Don't be afraid to use tone controls on the guitar as well

Do as Ivan said and don't forget the delay effect! Its the most important for that intro. Try to set the time (delay time) to be exact as in the original song...Just play the intro with delay on and see which time is the "one.

Yep, delay, try with triplets, I think those were triplets
