Hey everybody I have around 1000 dollars to spend on a new guitar and ive decided to go with some type of American Stratocaster; however, I am unsure of which type to purchase. I like to play a wide variety of music so i think an HSS strat will help me attain more tones. Can someone explain the difference between the new standard and the deluxe? and does anyone have experience with Fat (HSS) Strats? thanks alot

If you're getting a strat then I'd get one with 3 singles and make sure they are Texas Specials. The perfect Fender guitar in my opinion with those pick ups. Although I possibly prefer the Fender Jaguar.

Well it depends on what kind of sound you're after with strats. Deluxe models are cool, they have S1 Switching system and noisless pups. They do have versatility and you can combine different pups connections, but lack a genuine strat tone imho. Genuine strat tone is most often and most wanted, but you can go for hotter pups like texas specials. They are overwounded to give more output and sound more compressed then regulars. Standard series are cool, if you take HSS fatstrat you wont regret it imo. Just make sure you thoroughly check every piece before you buy it. The guitars are not the same. Some models sound better some worse because of the mass production. If you find a shop that has many strats shop there, and do comparative tests on at least 5 guitars. Then you can choose the best sounding. Don't let the looks ever be the reason - always go for the sound. All strats look cool anyway wink.gif

I think standard stratocaster will be cool as well..HSS version will be cool if you can find it...You can't go wrong much with american strats, just go to the store and try them out and see which one you like smile.gif

The deluxe is great, the necks are amazing, they feel they have been played for years. Also the S1 switching and noiseless pups make are a nice alternative to the standard single coils I can attest to Ivan saying it's a bit more challenging to get the patented Strat tone, you can get it but it's not quite as potent as the standard american model, at least the older ones. I wish I had purchased the HSS model, as I find the bridge pickup pretty weak coming from a Gibson SG.
I don't think you can go wrong with any American Strat.
