Hi,

I'm Gert living in Belgium and joined GMC about 2 weeks ago. About 20 years ago I thought myself some basic chords on a Fender strat but quit playing after one year because at that time there weren't so many options to learn playing the guitar. And I need guidance and tutors to show me how it's done.

I always had lots of regret I stopped learning play the guitar. So past summer I just stopped having regrets and took some action biggrin.gif I bought myself a Gibson LP so I can start learning and playing guitar again. I learned about GMC trough a friend who has used GMC for many years and really recommended it.

Already went through lessons 'total beginner' level 1 and 2. Next week I will start recording my lessons and put them into REC for evaluation.

My guitar heroes are Slash, Richie Sambora, Bryan May, Kirk Hammett and anybody who can play guitar!

Really excited and very motivated to master the guitar. My goal is to play in an awesome cover rock band in 2 years from now.

So GMC... here I am and ready to rock!

Hi Gert! Welcome to GMC smile.gif

I'm happy to hear that you have already started learning some lessons and decided to post your takes in REC. This is a really good strategy because, based on the complex feedback that you will receive, you will develop your playing in a good way.
Learning from the start each technique correctly, will help you to have constant and much faster progress.

BTW, the fact that you are very motivated to master the guitar and you have already started doing things is absolutely awesome and brings you one step closer to achieving your goal.

If you have some questions or you need help with the lessons, let us know.

Thanks Todd. Still figuring out my way on the GMC website. I'm more of a linear type of guy. I struggle a little bit of finding a way through the hundreds of lessons here. My mind works better with lessons starting with A and finish with Z and go through all of them.

But I',m sure I will find a way of dealing with that and I'm sure I can find enough help here to guide me through the process.

Hi Monica,

Thanks for replying! It's because of this REC program, I decided to join GMC because of tthis REC program. I need the feedback and the guidance of what I'm doing right and wrong.

Maybe you can read my reply to Todd also and comment on that?

Thanks!

Hi Gert!

I saw your reply to Todd. Things can look a little complicated at the beginning, because it's not easy to choose from hundreds of lessons.
But....for the first step, all you need to do is to find and learn 1 - 2 lessons that you like and you think that reflect your current level of playing and post your recording in REC.
After we will see your video, we can figure out what is best for you. So, don't worry, in the REC section, we will recommend you some lessons that will help you for the next steps. I have already kept in mind who are your guitar heroes and I know your main goal. wink.gif
For a start, don't think too much. Enjoy your practice and we will help you rock! smile.gif

One tip:
When you learn a lesson, try to look at the instructor's right hand and try to copy the same picking direction (downstroke or upstroke). If you train yourself to do this from the start, it will make your life easier for what will come. I tell you this from my own experience.

Have a great evening!

Hi Monica,

Thanks for getting back to me. Next Thursday, I will post my recordings of 2 lessons in REC. Nice to hear I will be given recommendations for the next lessons! That's what works for me...

Thanks for the tip regarding the right hand. I was already doing that but good to hear it's important. I will even pay more attention to it now.

Cheers,

Gert

Great feedback from Monica,

I would agree the absolute best way is to dive into something that inspires you and then try to get feedback as soon as possible.

Also, we have made some additions recently that might be helpful in deciding on how to structure your learning path.

Can you shoot a quick video with a cell phone or web cam to let us hear some of your playing? Maybe introduce yourself a bit on the vid and talk about what type of stuff you like to play and would like to learn? Im sure we can get things moving in the right direction smile.gif
