Hi Everyone!
As the topic says, i just registered to the GMC community and guitar lessons and would like to briefly present myself. I have been playing guitar since i'm 12 (now early 30s...), had a band 10 years ago and did some concerts/battle of the band/pub shows for 2 years. Then for professional reasons i had to change country and unfortunately dropped the guitar playing little by little... I'll say my level is like 5/6 on your difficulty scale. I try to play at least once every week, but i find myself stuck with the same technique/style and would like to go a step further! I have been looking for private classes but they are wayyyy too expensive, checking the internet for a while looking for a solution, learning some stuff from youtube, until i found your website! After checking many videos, looking at the different chat topics and seeing the positive & collaborative attitude of everybody around here, i had to give it a try! So I am pretty excited and looking forward to it! Favourite music style: blues, rock, hardrock, metal, thrash, a bit of jazz, and a bit of flamenco! Favourite guitarist (among others): Slash, Yngwie, Wylde, Gallagher (RIP), Roads (RIP), Dimebag (RIP), Knopfler, Van Halen, Brian May, Baker, Friedman, etc... Gear: Cort MattMurphy (with custom made pick-up from Crel (http://www.crelpickups.com/) and Benedetti (http://www.benedettipickups.com/); Sovtek Mig50, TraceEliott SpeedTwin H100 head (MK2), Palmer Cab, Kort Pandora 3, wahwah etc. Not a lot of GAS but always checking whats around there  A quick example of playing: the backing track if from Jason Becker, just a quick solo on top of it, made 10 years ago for an internet "battle" from a guitar website... (note that the real hard rhythmic part is Jason playing  http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?file_...945549468722766 Well, that's all for the presentation, i'll try to check my first lesson tonight and get rocking. As a first goal, i would like to go deeply in the topic of switching easily from minor to major and using some new modes (mixolydian, lydian, etc...) see you in the forum and behind your axe! -------------------- Hell was full ... so I came Back!

Great to find you introduction here! You must have good background with all those years of playing and with the experience of your band. At this point, you need a practice routine based on your next goals as musician. You said that you feel yourself limited and blocked and that you want to open your mind and expand your limits. I think that here you'll find all the things you know to achieve this goals, but you need a well organized plan, and also some diary practice. A good way to start here would be a choose a lesson (or maybe two, a solo and a rhythm one), learn it, record yourself and share your recording here. If you can provide videos, I recommend you to use our REC program section to shared it. Do you have some lessons in mind? Hehe wow that Jason Becker thing was amazing, and your tone was probably better than his (without all that harsh treble of the early Shrapnel records). So have your chops evolved since then? I would love hear a new recording from you. As for combining major and minor - these are several approaches. I prefer the simple ones, and since most people know the pentatonic scale I recommend superimposing the minor and major boxes. These are in A so you could try it over our collab backing. A minor pentatonic:  A major pentatonic:  Here is one way of superimposing them  Now if these scales don't help you much, I would suggest practicing one of the many GMC lessons that mix major and minor pentatonic.
