Here is a breakdown of the most important guitar related gear of the last 30 years according to musicradar.com.

http://www.musicradar.com/news/guitars/the...years-598973/13

The Ibanez RG550 is, of course, listed as is the AXE FX and Pod. The iPad even gets a mention. Off hand I think they snubbed the 11 RACK smile.gif

What do you think they left out?

I'm a bit surprised at some choices/placing.
For example, position number 3 for Akai U4 Phrase Trainer?

Does anyone have any experience with this device and was it popular/revolutionary?

I think all those products are great but I think only a handful of them are important in the evolution of guitar, guitarists, music and the guitar IN music.

ADA mp1 for sure - rack mounted, multi-amp sounds and fx
POD - the birth of modeling (axe fx, kemper, 11 rack are all better but Line 6 was first)
Whammy pedal - Tom Morello (nuff said)
7 string/8 string - modern metal - what would it be w/o that super low end
Triple Recto - again, the metal and modern rock evolution

All the rest of that stuff are just not particularly 'innovative' guitars and amps and fx - nothing that changed the way things went.

*I would trade out youtube - accelerated learning tool, for the ipad

Some of the gear doesn't revolutionary to me either. But the orange 15 watt amp is a good one I think. I have a mesa mini rec and I love it great sounds with ought blowin your windows out. And the ipad. So many uses for it. I use it a lot for music. Tabs reading gmc and bluetooth it to my home stereo for backtracks when I don't want to be confined to my workspace.

I'd say the biggest change in musical gear over the last 30 years has been guitar modelling software and guitar modelling gadgets in general. They are so affordable and sound decent enough these days.

I like the polytune making the list. Maybe not revolutionary at this point, but definitely stands alone. And I can already see other tuners moving in the same direction.

That's a great point!!! YOUTUBE is probably the biggest advance for guitar players that got left off the list. I'd drop the PHRASE TRAINER and and the IPAD and add YOUTUBE and maybe something like AMPLITUDE or GUITAR RIG for starting off software modeling smile.gif
