Shared a few video's of these guys before, this one again is really good.

In the famous "gas. whats next?" topic somewhere in there we shared/discussed cool info on watt's vs loudness and the properties connected to this. The video explains these facts in a really easy to understand way with sound examples, there's probably almost everything you need to know about amp volume and tone associated to it.

Its fun to watch too, enjoy cool.gif

Great video Mertay,

I learnt a lot in the "Gas, What next" thread, didn't know it was famous though cool.gif (For those that haven't seen it, it's HERE ) I always was under the same assumption that 100watts is twice as loud as 50watts, now being able to go from 1w-5w-20w with my Peavey I am amazed at how little the volume changes. I've also found, that for some reason, the 5w setting is the sweetest sounding of the three. I don't understand why but that's how it seems, to my ears anyway.

One thing in that video bugs me though, there's a humming noise that keeps fading in and out mad.gif

Cheers Mertay smile.gif

The prefered watt setting might defer on sweetness depending on OD settings as they demonstrate on the video, but that should be more obvious when using a cab.with different volume settings.

When using the cab. sim. on it though this might not be a fact as I don't know the internal structure. I do know your blackstar for example disables the power section on cab. out while the Peavey seems more andvanced and might work differently.

The humm is an electrical issue, if your country's is say 120v this value can slightly go up or down and this causes noise. Grounding protects when its higher which is very good for anything electrical in the house (its not too expensive to make grounding if the house doesn't have it).

But when low, though its not harmful for many electrical items his causes humming on amps. Fixing that is super expensive for the whole house but for amp+computer a smaller online ups shouldn't be too expensive.

I don't have the hum, it's on their video, it phases in and out, very annoying laugh.gif

Thanks , Mertay. that was a really cool demonstration. It was funny to watch when they played at the high volume levels. It was obviously hurting their ears but they just couldn't help themselves because it hurt so good! biggrin.gif
