Hello folks,
My camcorder is not all I want it to be. I have one of THESE and would like a camcorder with the same field of view and a remote control. I don't know what specs I need to compare. The still camera is a great video recorder and I know a while back I showed my fix for not having a pivoting screen but now I've been using a pivoting screen I can't do without it  My current camcorder is a Sony HDR TG3 E and I have to get it too far away to get me in shot.Any ideas? The easy fix is to get an add on lens for your current camera. It's worth a google or two I'd say. Vendors make all sorts of add on lens kits. Third part vendors will make kits for nearly any camera. If it's just field of view, I'd say try to find a wide lense kit that fits your camera.

I just click record on camera then position it (this is where remote would come in), click record on Reaper, do a take, import both into Movie Line em up and go. If someone could just tell me what part of the spec details shows field of view please, that would be great.

What I really want to know though is how I can be sure that given THESE specs of my stills camera how do I know I'll get at least the same field of view at the widest setting? It sounds like you need some info on the basics of 'Focal Length" and Field of View" here is a handy article complete with pics that should help
P.S. Is there a local camera shop nearby where you live? A quick chat with someone very familiar with lenses/photography etc. would be helpful. Focal length (f=)f=10.4-37.1 mm if you like it, then just get a camera with similar spec I have been using a Canon HV30 for some time now and love it. It's got a very wide field of view, has a nice flip out monitor, and has firewire so that I can record direct to computer via firewire over quicktime. So it cuts out the need for file transfer on video. Quicktime will take a separate audio source, so I can feed it audio as well as a mix from my interface via headphone out. The result is a perfectly synced video clip that is ready to go as soon as I hit record and stop Of course, this does require firewire. However, any camcorder that has usb "camcorder" functionality can do the same thing. The important bit is to have the remote control (most web cams don't) and the flip out monitor (again most web cams don't). Many still cams are starting to take over this area but run a bit pricey. I got my hv30 for less than $50 used on ebay. It will record full HD via firewire However, I often record standard definition for many things as most folks just use whatever resolution youtube selects based on bandwidth, which is very often, standard definition.
