Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Hi Blues - great to see a REC take from you!

Since the take is not complete we cannot grade it, but here are some pointers.

* It seems your G string is out of tune - this makes your take hard to enjoy for me.

* Plaase note that Ben uses classical, horizontal, vibrato throughout the first half of the lesson.

* When bending/doing vibrato make sure you use all fingers available to help with the execution (00:47).

* There are some timing issues and and missed notes throughout the whole take.

To sum up, you have already come a long way here, but you need to spend more time making this sound musical.

Keep it up mate!

Great feedback from kris! I'd add that your sitting position might be getting in your way. try sitting in classical position for a few takes. put your guitar on your left leg and raise your left leg up by putting it on a stack of books or something about 8 inches high. it will change the angle of attack for you picking and fretting hand. It makes it easier to reach many notes that may have seemed awkward when sitting 'side saddle" as you are in the vid.

keep at it!!!

Todd

Hey there!

It's always great to post a take in REC becasue it's not a place where we try to "cricify" students. It's a place when you show us thigns so we can sugegst where to look for tweaks and fix issues of your playing.

I need to say that I'm just guessing but we've all been at the point you are now and we all can same the same thing. At first it really makes lot's of fun to know where to place the finegr and which string to hit. You may not be able to spot exactly what we mean now but the longer you'll play, the more details you'll be able to capture in your own playing.

At this point there are many things to fix. The simplest one is the intonation. You can always spent soem extra time on tuning your guitar - strentching the strings, rechicking fretted notes besides the open strings. It' nothing that needs your practise but a well tuned guitar alwayst gives lot of good to overall performance.

Some notes are missed - you hit the string but you did not make it to fret the note correctly so there's a percussive sound rahter than actually note at some points.

Playing on distortion requires to not only hit the string you want to hear, but also take care of the string we don't want to cut through the mix. Please search GMC for Unwanted strings muyting techniques lessons. It will show you exacly what it's all about. You'll see that sometiems it's much more work to get rid of unwanted noise than to fret the actuall note

There are some more details but things above would most visibly affect the quality of your performance.

Hi friend!

I think that you've already received great feedback here and that you are ready to get back to practice and focus on the different elements that need work here. As you have many things to improve in your playing and this take, I recommend you to write down a list with all the things commented by instructors here and give organize your time in order to cover all of them.

In the case that you need help with your guitar practice, please send me a message and I can give some assistance.

Keep on the hard work!
