Inspired by this post (Gear), I thought it would be nice to also have a post like this.

Well, the truth is, I just wanted to know what do you use for your metal parts (naphtha, petroleum jelly?) and if you use something special to lubricate them (like graphite) and which metal parts you lube. smile.gif

Anyway, tell us what kind of cloths, polishes etc. are you using on your guitar(s). Also describe the part that you're cleaning (like: for my plastic neck I use a porcupine wink.gif , a more serious example: for my rosewood fretboard - flaxseed oil) and you don't have to tell us if your frets are jumbo or not because it's not related (in Pavel's words - ''who cares'') to whether you're using steel wool (different types have numbers I think) or not.

Don't be shy..

Okay, I'll start.

Dean Markeley's two cloths - Micro Fiber Finish Cloth and Double-Think Cotton Polish cloth (hardly use it because the other one is so great)

Love Potion no.9 for the body

flaxseed oil (organic of course smile.gif ) for my rosewood fretboard

and I occasionally wipe my strings (I don't sweat, I'm perfect tongue.gif )

nothing for the metal parts yet biggrin.gif I do wipe everything with that cloth.

Oh, and for the metal parts, how often do you lubricate them?

I use nothing at all...maybe once a month or so, I'll clean with a damp rag. Is this wrong? haha

And sometimes if my hands are sweating alot on the neck, I'll just wipe with with my shirt to get it smooth again.

I use Wood Polisher, gives teh body a great shine, and doesnt hamr or damage the paint, for the neck, i use this stuff called "Goo-Gone", removes all the sweat and dirt without rusting or damaging the strings or fretboard.

Th oil won't "clean" the fretboard but I have found that extra virgin olive oil worked great as a fretboard oil when Lemon Oil is not available.

Cleaning is guitar dependent. A lot of electric guitars are sealed with a clear coat of paint to make them shiny and protect them. This coat can take ALOT of abuse with minimal cleaning... mainly just wipe off excess sweat. As for metal parts... I have found just wiping them clean with dry 100% cotton cloth every string change makes them last forever.

Just remember, you'll get as many opinions about cleaning guitars as you will about which is the best guitar ever made.
