The goal for me is to play metal at high level, with nice, fresh and new riffs. I want to master every style, including classical music. The problem for me is that almost every classic songs is done with finger picking, and its pretty rare that you use fingerpicking if you play metal (palm muting etc). I like to do things that improves my playing, and i am a little unsure that classical music will, as i cant use the pick. Anyway, I was just wondering if classical music (fingerpicking) improves my playing if i play metal (with pick) Hope you understand, Cheers You don't have to play classical musical with fingerpicking, take the composition and apply it to you'r playing style, that is also the basis of neo-classical shred, like Yngeiw Malmsteen and Paul Gilbert, and Steve Vai also did a re-arrangement of a classical Pagannini piece naming it Eugene's Trick Bag. Here's some videos for you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7ZnOZ5QNR4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8eymimAV8k https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=butSehypDUA And avecourse, the infamous Cannon Rock https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=by8oyJztzwo Basicly instead of focusing on learning diffrent techniques(while being beneficial for it's own reasons) that you are not really intrested in, focus on listening to the music and applying the style in you'r own playing style. Fingerpicking is one technique that you will sure benefit from. Just practice it and you can develop some hybrid style.

I think every guitarist should develop finger picking to a nice level...No matter what style is primary for you , you should not distance yourself from the root things ..
So I suggest practicing some finger picking and trust me - it won't definitely be a waste of time.. -------------------- For GMC support please email support (at) guitarmasterclass.net
