Hello, after reading the thread about beginners looking for simple recording ways. I decided everyone recommends Toneport+Reaper. I think im going to get a toneport. but Which model should i grab? the first one or the ux1. Whats the difference? I just want to record myself with one guitar. Also can i play with my amp whilst recording with toneport?

Also i have a mac so can i use garage band as opposed to reaper? or is reaper superior?

Thanks.

Bogdan says it's got an XLR so then you should be able to mic your amp to record it.

If you wanna hear the sound from your amp and in the same time send direct sound to Toneport, you can do it in 2 ways:

1. Take a cable out of DI output of the amp to input of Gearbox
2. Buy a signal splitting device.

In most cases you wont use Toneport like this anyway. You will use either guitar>toneport or guitar>amp>(via mic)>toneport

Okay im about to buy the ux1, so i just plug in guitar>toneport>pc with a recording program open and then i can use GearBox to change the guitar sound or whatever? also what is the "extra" part of the ux1 as opposed to the cheapest model? It just allows you to add vocals?

It has an XLR input and allows you to record two mono tracks of audio, guitar+mic for example (2 stereo tracks if you add effects with gearbox), and monitor the effects in real time while playing of course.

Thats it , its pretty much plug your guitar in , start gearbox and open recording software and record !!
Ux1 can record two channels if you will , it doesn't necessarily has to be vocals + guitar...
