In this bit we are going to use the BLUES SCALE for a bit of picking practice. This drill is designed to help you figure out if you like alternate or econ picking. You can use one or both. Let your fingers tell you what works. Any strike pattern is ok as long as you play the notes listed. Also, this has a one finger bend. Watch the vid and notice that I"m using just a single finger for the slight bend and vibrato. I end with a single finger and use vibrato on it as well. Try to see if you can get control over subtle bends and vibrato using just one finger. If not, that's ok, just give it a shot smile.gif

BINGO!!! That's it wink.gif It's a very bluesy lick with a bit of single finger work thrown in. Most folks typically use two or three fingers for bends but it's sure possible to use a single finger and then you get a lot more options open. If one always uses more than one finger, it's tough to switch positions
in time to reach other bits. Being able to do vibrato/bending on a single finger lets you land quickly on another note and follow up one vibrato note with another with no gap. Well played! you just..

BINGO!! That's what I"m looking for here. A nice run up and then using a single finger to make the bend. Keeping control of a bend with a single finger is not easy. It's key though for being able to create expressive solos. You will find that being able to bend and vibrato with just one finger allows your other fingers the ability to get ready for the next note you want to play where as if you need all your fingers for bending/vibrato, you have to have a small gap before moving on which is not always what one wants. Well played! You just..

NAILED IT!!! You even got the slight one finger bend that gives this licks it's flavor! Bending that note, the one right before the root/resolution, is not the typical note choice in many cases. I like throwing this quazi bend in there for fun. You got it full stop. Also, you picked up on the muting on the lower strings while letting the unwound strings ring. Transitioning from muting the wound to ringing the unwound is something that I've always liked as it makes bit seem a pinch more dynamic. Well played!!

You just..

This is far better vibrato than you started out with way back when you first started doing vibrato. The most important thing is that you keep making progress. Without progress, one's playing is dead. Keep working on your vibrato. It's not tepid or shallow which is great. Make it a little more wide and big as you go. Keep at it!!

You got this!
