Have you tried playing other instruments ? Which ones and how successful were you?

Besides playing bass, I can somewhat play guitar and I also tried playing keyboards/piano in the past as well as harmonica smile.gif
I really liked playing the piano and it would be awesome if I have developed those skills further....

What are your experiences ? Was the guitar the first instrument you tried to play?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbpHJNa-6a8
but since my resurgance of focusing on my guitar ,I have practically for gotten everything ,exept your basic chords
and I played drums for a year and even recorded bass on one song on my first CD

I actually played tuba (4 years) and trumpet (1 year) before starting out with any rock related instrument biggrin.gif

For the last 6-7, I have been playing both bass and guitar. Though, I have practised far to little technique and groove on bass, so I`m not too good at it...

Lately, I have also begun to play some piano/keyboard and tried a bit singing! The vocals are for the moment about equal to a light torture, but hopefully I`ll get better tongue.gif

With time, I also hope to learn to play drums! Maybe my favorite rock instrument, funny enough laugh.gif

Oh cool, I would love to try out trumpet or saxophone smile.gif

I also hope to get my hand on an upright bass some time in the future.

I play both piano and guitar frequently, though I consider the guitar my main instrument. I tried to play trumpet in the 3rd-4th grade, but found out I didn't like cleaning out the spit valves after every practice and keeping the other parts well oiled. I also tried to learn to play the mandolin, since I come from a region with a strong bluegrass tradition, and the mandolin is often used in that style of music. I got to where I could play basic chords and a few songs, but gradually I just let guitar take over till now I don't even own a mandolin. I have often thought about trying to learn bass guitar sometime in the future, using Bogdan's excellent lessons to get me started of course! biggrin.gif

Hehe smile.gif I would love to help you get started with bass. Having experience playing bass and guitar I found out that bass playing perspective gives you somehow a wider picture in terms of imagination. Since your primary role there is to provide a "foundation" for the song/band.

Now you reminded me - I gotta buy Ukelele smile.gif)) That would really cool to have around smile.gif

I started with keyboard lessons when I was around 12.

Then I picked up the guitar some years later.

In my mid twenties I played bass in a band.
I borrowed the instrument and really had no pratice and no theory or anything.
But this is how we sounded http://www.reverbnation.com/merchantstreet
(Not really my usual genre, but it was quite fun anyway)

lol, this is the right thread for me laugh.gif laugh.gif
Well, where should I begin? I play the saxophone alto for a loooong time, I can't remember how long, I did the highest degree in music school this year in classical education (in some quartets I played tenor as well as baryton)...I'm very happy with my technique etc, but now I search the right sound for joining a rock or jazz band...
then I play piano and keyboard for 6 years I think. I also followed classical education, but now switched to more popular songs. I'm able to play songs you can hear in the radio, but I search to combine jazz standards with pop music, sort of Jamie Cullum...
Furthermore, I play the guitar for 2 years now and the bass for 1 year. I think I'm a decent rhythm guitar player, my level of solo guitar is around 3 here on GMC.
Moreover ( laugh.gif) I own a Cajon, harmonica and a didgeridoo, just for the pleasure of the sound smile.gif

I'm actually getting quite good with blues harp, I'm slowly learning to produce notes out of a diatonic range smile.gif

I tried to learn keyboard, but it stayed on C major chords and melodies for me, and couple of blues licks.

I actually started playing piano at the age of 8 before guitar. I once tried out my Dad's trumpet (back when he used to play) and it was kinda fun.

A little bit of keyboard. Just some simple songs like Styx - Come Sail Away, Billy Joel - Piano Man (rhytm part only), Jump, Journey-Open Arms, and some 1-4-5 blues rhythms in F. I like to play bass. I ususally try to record my own bass when I record an original track which I haven't really done since joining GMC so it's been awhile. I've been focusing on guitar these days.

I tried keyboard and drums but guitar, composing and recording take too much of my time so I couldn't study too much. I use keyboard for composing but I can't play a whole piece.
I would love to learn to play the Cello. I never tried it but I love its sound. smile.gif

I guess bass doesn't count, since I'm not good with my fingers, but I can play some basic slow stuff with fingers, and I could possibly do a gig with a pick on the bass biggrin.gif

I went to a shopping mall once, and they had a booth where you could try out a Shamisen.
I tried to play Master of Puppets on it, and everyone looked at me like I was crazy mellow.gif
Cool sound though.
