Hello everyone,

I'm djohnneay, 20 years old, and live in Holland. I have been playing the guitar for nearly 2 years.
I've been practicing some of the free lessons on this site for over a year now, and finally decided to join.

I really like the way the lessons are presented. Everything is clear, and comes complete with tabs, multiple backing tracks, metronome, video, scales and very detailed explanations. I have been checking out the theory lessons as well already, and think I would be able to learn a lot from this site.

Since I'm going back to school starting tomorrow, I will be into a fair share of spare time, and planning to use that on practicing the guitar. The music I like is mainly (hard)rock and metal (progressive, power), some of the bands being Dragonforce, Guns ´n Roses, Metallica, Dream Theater and Sabaton. But I also like Stevie Ray Vaughan and Steve Vai.

I have already checked out alot of Kris´ 101 lessons, and trying to get started on some tapping, AP and string muting excersises. I really think a clean sound is important in playing guitar, so I´m going to try and work on that for a while.

If anybody has suggestions and/or questions, let me know.

I´ll be seeing you !!

djohnneay

You seems to have self-discipline, so there isn't much I can suggest. Everything is important, technique, theory and so on. I would advice learning everything, but depending on Your time, make a choice and focus on few areas at a time. Practicing to many different things at the same time, when this time isn't to long will bring smaller results.

Welcome to the site:)

"Think of a guitar solo as a paragraph. You need a clear beginning, a middle, and an end. Look at musical phrases like sentences, and make sure you break them up using punctuation—or space. You pause naturally when conversing, right? If you don't, you'll bore the listener. The same thing will happen with your audience if your solo is one dimensional. You'll wear them out and lose their attention." —Tom Principato

Welcome to GMC mate! Starting with cleaning up your playing is a wise thing to do. Other than that, search for lessons in the styles you like (there are plenty)... and have fun cool.gif

Thanks everyone for this warm welcome !

I will try not to practice everything at once, Marek, though its not easy for me to concentrate on one single thing for a long time. Surely because of the huge variation the lessons have to offer.

And Ivan, thanks for the beginner tip, I will check it out !
