I advise learning the modes first. Just play them up and down until you have memorised the shapes.

Lol, Welcome to GMC Kranthir! A good thing, is to go to Andrew;s theory board, https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_fo...?showtopic=3351 . This man is a walking encyclopidia (dunno how to say that right) and he explains everything well. In this topic, there is information on scales/chords/ everything you want to know! Good luck!
-------------------- Don't just play it. Feel it!

Welcome aboard mate! If you are just starting with scales, possibly you can check out my pentatonic workshop series lesson 1.

Welcome. I suggest starting with minor and major pentatonic scales. Those are great for rock licks. After that learn Major scale and the modes of the major scale. As you progress you will understand the whole concept of using them and practicing. Feel free to ask any questions if you have.
