I advise learning the modes first. Just play them up and down until you have memorised the shapes.

Lol, Welcome to GMC Kranthir! A good thing, is to go to Andrew;s theory board, https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_fo...?showtopic=3351 . This man is a walking encyclopidia (dunno how to say that right) and he explains everything well. In this topic, there is information on scales/chords/ everything you want to know! biggrin.gif Good luck!

Welcome. I suggest starting with minor and major pentatonic scales. Those are great for rock licks. After that learn Major scale and the modes of the major scale. As you progress you will understand the whole concept of using them and practicing. Feel free to ask any questions if you have.

Welcome to GMC once again smile.gif

Most common scale used is Minor pentatonic. If you master that scale well then you can move onto Blues scale and start learning modes of Major scales.
Practice with backing tracks, solo over Blues chord progressions , thats your best place to start right away !
