If you do not know what this is about -
This idea originates from us brainstorming about a possible new collaboration format/idea.
Check out Cael's student team as well.

--------------

@Gab & @Ken

I am super stoked to get started with this - I think Cael's idea will be a killer springboard for us to get creative with! To recap, here is what we have so far:

Cael's original draft idea

Lyrics

Through the valleys 'neath the wasteland wind
I roam these barren lands alone
This is where I belong
This is my home

As the valley howls its weeping song
The sun sets sail to foreign shores
But this is where I belong
This is my home

In the valleys you better sleep with eyes unshut
or the wilds will run you out of luck
But this is where I belong
This is my home

Through the valleys 'neath the wasteland wind
I roam these barren lands alone
This is where I belong
This is my home

---------
How do you guys suggest we start this off? Maybe Ken wants to lay down some guitar tracks to a click track?

>>>> END RESULT <<<<<<

You will also find both track on the GMC Radio.

Extra special thanks to Cael for his amazing musical skills and also for helping me out with a video edit for the track!

Spoken:
Here's to my brothers,
who stood by me as I fell
Like so many times before
When I've felt fragile and sore
I hail to thee!

As the valley holds its weeping song
The sun sets sail to foreign shores
And here is where I used to roam
‘This is what I call my home

In the valleys you better sleep with eyes unshut
or the wilds will run you out of luck

This is where I belong
And this is my home

Chorus:
Through the valleys 'neath the wasteland wind
I roam these barren lands alone
This is where I belong
This is my home

As the valley holds its weeping song
you better sleep with eyes unshut
or the wilds they will run you out of luck
Though this is where I do belong
And this is what I call my home

I used to call my home
Used to be so strong

Chorus:
Through the valleys 'neath the wasteland wind
I roam these barren lands alone
This is where I belong
This is my home

As the rock would roll, so did the soil, so did my soul
As with Rock n Roll, we had a ball, we filled the halls
Nowhere do we go from here 'cause no man leaves the land!

03:33 Whammy solo by Kris

No man leaves the land!

04:02 Epic nylon solo by Ken

I'm on my way, home again.
I'm coming back again...
mama!!

I'm coming home again

-------

I am extremely proud of the end product, it's just more organic than anything I have been involved with before - and it's oozing chemistry between the participants and the original song structure by Cael!

There's only 12 different notes in music (not accounting for octaves) but somehow, over the course of 2000 years or so we've been able to come up with everything from Gregorian Chant to Trap. The fact that these two collabs even sound remotely similar, especially sans Ben's involvement in ours, is a minor miracle.

With that said though, what I thought about originally was less busy than what you guys have here, but that's not to say it's in any way bad - and I don't mind it as I'm not THAT attached to the idea of the song, if that makes sense - from a compositional viewpoint.

Good point, I agree this one ended up being a lot busier than I had anticipated as well. And it got better the more I scaled it down, so perhaps I should have kept going..!

Problem was that we had so many good takes, but I know....kill your darlings 😅

That's sounds great Kris! Nice job all around.
I do agree with JSTCRSN though that you should leave out the final 'again'.

I have been thinking more about the last words - and instead of trying fix something that might not be broken - here is how I see the meaning of those lyrics.

He is returning to a place where he has been before (home). This can be taken literally - ie he is coming back to his mama. Or figuratively - and to me this would mean he is returning to the place he was before birth, wherever that was. This could be interpreted in many ways.

To me the 'again' part conveys the fact that there is a 'return' to something. If we just say "home" there is less room for interpretation / depth.

I think it can be down to the initial mindset about it too. The idea for this was very much based around being for GMC, left a bit open to interpretation and I was in a way "less attached" to it that way, as opposed to going into writing or working on something while having a more complete vision for the project.

With that said though, what I thought about originally was less busy than what you guys have here, but that's not to say it's in any way bad - and I don't mind it as I'm not THAT attached to the idea of the song, if that makes sense - from a compositional viewpoint.

When I was 18 I played with a drummer, and we were very much into the same kinda music and was very much on the same wavelength. Maybe that has skewed my ideas about how a band should be tongue.gif If it's a bigger vision and project that I've specifically and intentionally set out to do, then it can be difficult when people take it in a completely different direction that doesn't feel like it's working. I never felt that with any of this though smile.gif

Also, be sure to check out the current mix here: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_fo...st&p=796085

That's interesting! The cool part of this experiment is that you can hear what other musicians can do with an idea that you start. That's one of the things that I like the most about following GMC collabs that I don't lead.

I'm now going to the other thread to hear what you got! biggrin.gif

Ha, ha! Not at all. They're your lyrics. You 'should' fight for them. I was pretty insistent on my baritone part.

I just noticed that in your whammy solo you do a "yee haw" cowboy yell.
Very cool!
