Hi GMC,
I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and a happy New Year!
In my stocking this year I got a copy of Rolling Stone magazine and it was the playlist issue. Different musicians gave their 10 song playlist of certain genres or eras in music and even specific artists. I thought it might make an interesting thread here as well as a good way to find some new music
So lets see what you have to recommend GMC. Be it a genre, era of music (ie: 70's hard rock) or a specific artist/group pick 10 songs that you think define your pick or that you think people should listen to, you can give a reason why as well if you like. I'll start off...
I pick the Canadian icons The Tragically Hip. I've spoke of them here before but it's one band I can't talk enough about. They have been around since the 80's and are still going strong. One of the best bands you will ever see live and I've seen them more times than I can remember. It's hard to just pick 10 songs but I'll give it a shot.
10. Grace, Too 09. Courage 08. Locked in the Trunk of a Car - Love the opening and the song just kicks butt. 07. Wheat Kings 06. Fiddlers Green - Beautiful song 05. Looking for a Place to Happen 04. New Orleans is Sinking - This song was recorded back in the 80's... great blues feel. 03. Nautical Disaster - Just love this song. Great story telling. 02. Little Bones 01. Blow at High Dough - The song that started it all.
There are many, many, many more great songs by these guys but that would be my top 10 suggestions for first time listeners. My internet connection is horrible this evening so it's to painful to post any youtube clips for each song but I'll post one for my #1 pick and then you should be able to find the rest from there.
I'm looking forward to seeing your playlists GMC!!

Nicest discovery for me was discovery of ASG band this summer, check out some of their awesome songs. They are not that great live I must confess (mainly due to the fact vocals are done great on album, and the singer is singing alone live). Anyway, check this out!
