Hi my names Casey and just joined this site. I was looking for a great resource for lessons and found this site by chance. I immediately was blown away by the amount of diverse and well detailed lessons so I decided to join. Ive been playing for about 8 years mostly learning songs along the styles of august burns red, between the buried and me and others in the progressive metalcore genre but never really learned the music theory behind it. What would be a good place to start learning to better understand what scales, modes and other important aspects of this style of music? Thanks for your help, really look forward to what this site has to offer!

Welcome to GMC Casey! biggrin.gif

If you are looking to get a broad introduction to relevant music theory for metalcore - and you don't know where to start, I would suggest mentoring with Gab. If you think it sounds interesting Gab will give you more info.

If you'd rather take the do-it-yourself path, I would simply learn metal lessons like a madman. For every new lesson you learn, try to also learn just a little bit of theory (for example the scale position provided by the instructor in the lesson).

Gradually everything will start falling into place, and more importantly your journey will be really fun - as you will be playing your favorite style of music all the time!
