I love so many different styles of music, I would never be able to play just one style! Also I love trying to replicate the sound and phrasing from other instruments on guitar, like the chinese erhu, japanese shamisen, sitar, pan flutes, violins, voices etc. Not even mentioning genres themself! smile.gif
Moving into unknown waters is always fun for me, because you learn so much smile.gif

When I started out playing guitar I really liked Nirvana, Alice in Chains and the whole grunge scene, so that was naturally where I started out. I then took the direct route and jumped to Progressive metal afterwards, playing a lot of Dream Theater and such. Now I'm getting old (21 in 10 days laugh.gif) it seems as I'm heading more towards fusion-ish music. smile.gif

but haven't you felt the need to go back to some of those earlier genres you liked?

I do still feel that I belong more in the Progressive Metal genre when trying to compose (which then...I'm not getting anything composed!), so it might be I should move on also in that. I do still like Alice in Chains stuff, and in some ways I'd like to go "back" and maybe find a band that would play such things.

I'm very similar to you in that sense, I like experimenting with other styles but the one style that I really like is prog metal which in the end is a combination of many things
