Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: Straight Rock Solo by Guido Bungenstock

Hi folks! Are you ready to rip me a new one? :) I forgot some details (as Guido plays them) but I still kind of like this take. Also I wanted to try out my new guitar! Just had to record something, hope it's good enough. thanks for your time, Cheers!

Hi Emir!

It's awesome to see a new take from you. As you already said, there are some details that are missing from your take.

Comparing your take with the original take, you played this lesson a little too softly. You played beautifully but you did not deliver the same energy as Guido.

Your playing is very good, but I think you could work more at the expressive elements - better dynamics, much stronger accents (your strong accents aren't strong enough and they don't give that bite effect), more care at those tiny details like: the duration of some particular notes, pauses, slides and direction of them.

0:21; 0:26; 0:36; 0:52 - you should mute the strings in these spots. There are pauses/breaks between the licks.

0:22 - to achieve the same sharp sound as Guido, you need to do this slide from the opposite direction and put a stronger accent on it.

0:26 - you did not play the down bend

0:48 - you added a note before the bend.

0:59 - the funky rhythm - you do not play this part in a good way. Be careful of accents and how Guido plays this part from the rhythmical point of view. Otherwise this will never sound great.

You get an 8 from me. BTW congrats on your new guitar. It looks and sounds awesome! smile.gif

So cool, and thanks for reminding me about this lesson - it's really a blistering solo with lots of emotion.

Your playing is really good and I cannot think of any technical issues here.

The main problem is that you are not quite comfortable with the lesson yet - so there is some hesitancy shinning through as pointed out by Monica. It's almost like you need to stop and think for a few split seconds and when doing so you kinda drop whatever you're playing.

I have absolutely no doubts you would nail this to a 100% if you kept working some more on it though.

Very cool playing - you get an 8 from me!

Hello Emir. The truth is that you're doing a very good job with this lesson.

It's true that you could incorporate more of the little details that Guido adds to his solo, but still your performance sounds professional to my ears.

If you want to get more out of this lesson, you could edit each lick in detail to mimic the way Guido uses expressive elements like note articulation, dynamics, bending, and vibrato. But either way, this take is approved here at REC.

I'd like to add that you've a very good sound and the guitar is beautiful!

Keep up the good work!
