I just noticed that out of the top 5 vids on my channel. 4 of them are "Shorts". This is like reels on instagram. You can only upload them from your phone. Vertical format. Even a video of my dog (God rest his soul) got 1,000 views on shorts. I just threw some stuff in there that wasn't even formatted correctly just to experiment. Works well smile.gif

Nice! It's a very TikTok-like format, which is a platform that can give you crazy traction, but also only allows videos up to 3 minutes. It used to be 1 minute, but they allow longer videos now. I do want to try out shorts on YouTube at some point...

...and when I've tried the shorts, maybe a jacket too. Silly pun! Sorry laugh.gif

Here is a link to a android video downloader so you can do it right from your phone. there are many of these and it might be the easiest way : Once youdownload from youtube, just upload as a 'short" and bam.

Yup it's exactly a tik tok sort of rip off which is what youtube is trying to do. same idea with instagram reels. They are wanting to offer tik tok type functionality.

Thanks I've done a short now wink.gif I'm finding it a bit confusing, "old fart syndrome" laugh.gif laugh.gif

For the record, there was a little switch to make in 60 seconds but I didn't do that. Maybe I can't upload my End Of Day thing. Ben said you can do 3 minutes though.

I did one 'short' last week. It got 639 views that day and then dropped off to practically nothing.
They're designed - I assume - to just be attention grabbers. I did get few more subscribers due to it though. I'm gonna try using them to advertise my longer vids. Kinda like a teaser/trailer.

I meant on TikTok, not sure if that was what you meant. TikTok you can select 15 seconds, 60 seconds and 3 minutes (but anything in between that will work too), it's just sort of the limit when creating the video or uploading, I think. If you upload 1 minute and 14 seconds that's fine too.

its amazing the difference in traction isn't it? A video posted on youtube might get almost nothing. Put it on shorts and bam several hundred maybe a thousand views.

There might be a market for you at TikTok, come to think of it. Not sure how to approach it though, but my suggestion is to maybe make a small peaceful movie to go along with the sound. I.e. just filming some trees swaying in the wind or waters dropping off a leaf etc. for those 1½ minute, then maybe a small text that says "Serenity Dimension" and "End of Day". I'm not saying TikTok should be your main market, but sometimes you can get a good amount of traction there - even go a bit viral, it seems, and then you could potentially guide them to YouTube, Spotify and so on.

TikTok in itself is very fast paced. Short video, swipe to next video, short video, next, short, video, next... it can almost be a bit hectic. Maybe someone would find it useful and peaceful to come across something like Serenity Dimension and just have a breather. Sort of a different market than what you might first have thought of, which seemed to be someone who had a very busy (work) day and was just taking a moment to relax, but maybe the people at TikTok can be a good market too. There are all kinds of age groups on there, not just dancing teenagers or whatever it was known for. I see quite a few TikToks about music, as the algorithm has found that I watch that a lot and stay with those videos, interact and so on, so that has become what is mostly suggested to me smile.gif

Congrats on 600 plus views smile.gif I'm guessing that's way more traction in a shorter time than regular vids on your channel? Id be curious to know if your experience has been similar to mine? Also, you can repurpose every vid you have for shorts. It can lead people to your content who may have never otherwise seen it.

This is a chart of your and my views from the past few days. They are similar except for the last month or so when I started putting up more shorts. Look at that spike!

Id say put it up on TIK TOK and put it up on instagram under "REELS". All of these things are quite similar. Along with YOUTUBE SHORTS they represent a great way to get some social media traction that is far beyond what you will get just posting it as a video on youtube. I've been shocked by the amount of traffic i've gotten from these methods.

I have seen folks complain that youtube know requires great gear/cameras/etc. in order for a vid to be competitive, but now with shorts, ive demonstrated using very poor quality vids shot poorly and with bad audio that manage to get traction. it may not last forever, but it's sure happening now wink.gif

of my top 5 most watched videos, 4 of them are shorts!! My top vid is a silly DOG VIDEO!

I even purposefully shot with poor framing, using camera audio, no color correction, etc. to see if it would even matter. Doesn't seem to smile.gif 15 seconds of bad vid. Still got more traction that longer vids that I worked my butt off for.

I have noticed that my short instructional vids do much better than even my fave solo type vids. The best solos i've ever done including ben collabs and high risk with ben higgins didn't do as well as the first 16 seconds of old quick licks videos.
