Robert Johnson definitely set us, both Americans and Britons on the R&R war path and if it wasn't for him Hendrix may not have played the way he did.
And then ... Jimi Hendrix completely changed the way EVERYONE who plays a guitar - regardless of style - now plays a guitar. You can't overestimate it. None of the other 3 in the pic would play or even approach a guitar the way they do w/o Hendrix before them. Even newbies who don't know who he is and may never even listen to JH are influenced and affected by him. There's no way around it. Besides guitar, JH was a full blown cultural revolution just by himself. JH is to rock and pop as Charlie Parker is to Jazz and Mozart is to Classical music. ALL that follows them is/was dependent on them. *I not a Hendrix fanatic at all. I didn't learn a ton of JH licks and I barely listen to him anymore and I try not to play like him but I do acknowledge his preeminence. To anyone who doubts his relevance and influence, I recommend these two volumes ... https://www.amazon.com/Crosstown-Traffic-He...n/dp/0312063245 https://www.amazon.com/Hendrix-Setting-Stra...record+straight This post has been edited by klasaine: Aug 18 2017, 09:21 PM -------------------- - Ken Lasaine

Mr Johnson all the way.
If I was on a desert island and only allowed one album it would be THIS Some of his work sounds like there are two guitarists in the room. I haven't seen these ones so I'll do. My answer is also Hendrix, but I'll get more into Robert Johnson to know his impact. Any cool documental or movie to see about him? -------------------- My lessons

Gab there is a brilliant documentary, hosted by John Hammond, son of record producer John H Hammond who booked Robert Johnson for the Spirituals To Swing concert at the Carnegie Hall but he had died before the gig.
In the documentary, John Hammond plays Love I'm Vain to Willie Mae Powell, an old lady, she is the woman he calls out to in the last verse of the song, it's a very poignant moment. I can't find it on YouTube but it's available on DVD, I have a copy. Here are a couple of trailers for it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYe7TZHuZ7s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHiyQbdABDQ Enjoy Phil This post has been edited by Phil66: Aug 20 2017, 07:27 PM -------------------- SEE MY GMC CERTIFICATE “Success is not obtained overnight. My car stereo has gone dead except for the cassette player. I'm glad I kept a box of them.

Well, there we have it. The proof that this discussion shouldn't be about who influenced who the most but the important point of what equipment was used to listen to the Music in the first place!!! haha that would be an interesting topic for a thread. -------------------- My lessons
