Gmc Sponsors?

Hello all...

maybe this has been suggested, but :

why dont we get any GMC sponsorships that would benefit everyone?

lets take an example:

GMC sponsors up with guitar center. The deal is, if you are a GMC student, you can get a discount off guitar products, in turn, this would make GMC members buy stuff from guitar center.

I think it would be a good way to get perks and stuff for joining the site. we can even do this with manufactures themselves like roland and digitech.

ill even go talk to businesses in my area personally:

around me i have:

Mesa factory
EMG factory
Carvin
and some other smaller companies

also, what about getting more "famous" people to come here and do interviews or online clinics for us?

I would be more than willing to talk to some artists and see if they would be down for doing something like this

overall, this would be amazing marketing for the site...

"come to GMC, get gear discounts, talk to famous musicians...."

what do you guys think?

That´s a very good suggestion, in my opinion. These features would attract even more people to GMC. smile.gif

Sounds like someone's crusading for a badge smile.gif

It's a great idea but as for attracting the famous talent, that's going to be easier said than done. Sponsorship also has to be worthwhile to the sponsor and I wonder if we are a big enough blip on the radar for that.

It IS a good idea none the less. I would've expected more details fleshed in before posting, but still a great start.

Doesn't this mean advertising banner? I think Kris said once they want to keep this site ad free ...

It has been discussed but NO Adverts really keeps GMC intimate and helps it stand apart from other guitar sites.

Think about every time you click on a topic and a popup hits you, would get annoying imho... smile.gif

Actually, a tasteful banner someplace wouldn't bother me; it's the flashing/animated (or just plain ugly) ones that become obnoxious. Also, I haven't seen a popup (anywhere) in a very long time.

I do applaud the ad-free policy, but I wonder if there is SOME place that a small ad (even google text ads, also non-obnoxious) would be helpful to GMC without tearing that policy apart.

A famous contributor or two would be, I suspect, even more beneficial. How would we go about that?

- Is there budget for clinics?
- How would the clinics cover the expense of the talent?
- How could we entice the talent to hang out and become part of the community?

i didnt say banners or anything like that

schools make deals with music shops all the time to get discounts for their students...people will just know that you get a discount somewhere when they sign up...we dont have to resort of banners.

second of all,

when i meant online clinics, i meant that they could so a small video cast or maybe just for an hour participate in a forum or GMC chat....im sure some famous musicians would love to volunteer some time to help other learning guitar players.

there are just ideas,

they obviously need to be developed more...

i agree, GMC should stay ad free. however, getting students discounts from places like line 6 and other companies that many students use here at GMC would be a really good thing for us...maybe there is a solution to stay Ad free while still striking a deal

Still not sure how to attract sponsorships without advertising opportunities. Perhaps combining those with the clinics, for example "GMC presents the Line-6 something or other clinic with special guest so-and-so" ??

Just playing devil's advocate because I think we're missing some business "glue" in Marc's ideas.

I second this idea.. would be really nice to see this. We need to produce some great guitarists here and success stories so more people would join as well. To get any kind of sponsorship, I think we will need to show a mass and how it can benefit 'them'. smile.gif

Practically speaking, I think the first thing to do is get the GMC "brand" spread out into more places if we want more memberships (since we're eschewing the concept of ad revenue) to cover the higher operating budget required for hosting clinics.

There are a few incentives already in place that get the GMC name out there already:
- referral program
- web link program

Is there more we can do without being obnoxious? Better tagging on our youtube accounts for the vids we post that are really good? Rating comment the videos our instructors post so that great and attractive videos are seen with the GMC link more often?

Should we do that more personal (non "ad" banner) advertizing elsewhere as well? Some folks are maintaining pages all over the place (facebook, myspace, etc) but I don't see us really coordinating these things together or using other contemporary tools (twitter for example). Putting those together to increase membership at the higher price would increase the operating budget and give Kris & Co. more funds to work with --and a stronger brand name-- for some of these projects listed in the original post (and others).

So it sounds to me like there's definitely a lot of potential but it may be that someone will have to do some research and planning in order to fully realize them.

Sounds exciting smile.gif

Jafo, great inputs man, I agree 100%. Some new marketing strategies would definitely be something that could prove useful. In what degree, that is a risk to take tho...
