Are There Any South American Amps?, Do any big name South American brands exist?

I heard the tariff on imported electronics in South America, i.e. Brazil, Chile etc. are insane. You would think with those high tariffs there would be some domestic manufacturers. Yeah I heard in South America there are a lot of old school luthiers that make some fantastic guitars So are the clones made by little shops? And whats so bad about those particular clones? Are they cheaply made and just sound bad? I'm really curious to know what the market is like down there. By the way, alot of amps out today are pretty much clones of other amps, or at least "inspired" by other amps. A few examples are Marshall JTM 45/Fender Bassman, Peavey 5150/Soldano SLO 100, and of course the whole Bugera line up. All those amps actually sound pretty good By the way, in Peru, do the tariffs only apply to Non South American countries, or does it even include those? Sep 1 2010, 04:33 PM	Instructor Posts: 3.466 Joined: 24-October 09 From: lima peru	well this clones are made by instrument luthiers a lot of times, so they are not really specialists on electronics and what's needed to properly build an amp. i know a lot of amazing amps are clones, but here are just bad clones, even once i tried a bassman clone, all tube etc but it just sounded BAD, maybe to low bias? could be. what do you mean with tariffs, prices? I have some Brazilian friends and they always ask me to send electronic stuff, xbox, ps3, etc, because that stuff is so expensive there. About taxes, Same thing happens here in Brazil. I spent more than 1.400 dolars in a guitar that is "only" 700 in US. BTW, Those Meteoro amps are well known and respected here in Brazil.
