Hello folks,

I haven't been able to play for a while due to a neurological issue in my neck, anyway, my FCB 1010 was working fine, I took my laptop, which is my main computer now with everything connected to it, to my holiday home, I also took a Scarlett Solo and a guitar to try out an "away from home" recording setup.

I am slowly getting back into playing, so I tried out my FCB1010, it wouldn't work at all, as I don't understand how to set an FCB1010 up, in desperation I tried these final steps of instruction from THIS thread:

Turn off your FCB.
Unplug midi cables from FCB.
Hold the DOWN footswitch and power on the FCB.
Once the green light shows up under global config press the DOWN footswitch.
Press the 7 footswitch.
Plug in your midi cable from the OUT of your interface (Scarlett in my case) to the IN on your FCB.
Press OK on the Mountain editor.
Hold down the down button on your FCB until it counts down from 9.
Put the other midi cable in from the IN on your interface to the OUT on the FCB.

Miraculously it got it working as a plug-in in Reaper but, here's the oddball thing, it doesn't work at all as stand alone software, it won't even detect an input from the FCB. Could connecting the Solo have caused some kind of glitch? If so, where do I start looking??

Thanks in advance.

Phil

Were you using Scarlet for your previous configuration? The one that worked...

Yes Gab,

I have a Scarlett 18i8 at home and a Scarlett Solo at my holiday home. I don't take the FCB with me, just my laptop. I'm finding it really strange that it works in Reaper but not as stand alone.

Cheers

Oh I see, this is a very specific issue, I don't have experience with those things, but if it works with Reaper, it should also work as standalone. It may be a configuration issue.. have you asked at that facebook group?

Yeah, couldn't get any help. I know the FCB is programmed, I may just uninstall and reinstall TH-U to see if it clears the problem wink.gif

I wish I could offer some guidance other than try a reinstall. If you've used it with reaper, it seems the easy thing might just be to keep doing that?

Hey Phil. I work with FCB for years now. Midi and this particular device are very straight forward. Usually if any issues occur it is a fault of missprogrammed midi channel between two devices or a physical damage of midi conector. Scarelt solo does not have midi input but you can use midi to usb cable converter and any DAW will receive commands sent by FCB. The only problam was when you wanted to edit fcb through PC. There was an old application that actualyl worked but you need to remember to set sysex on fcb to receive data. Other than that assuming that any fault has a simplest possibel cause is correct.

I wasn't able to create a detailed image of how exactly you wanted it to work. You post is kind of incomplete I guess. I can try to help but I need to know what you exactly expect fbc to do with what app/device and how exactly it is connected. smile.gif

Thanks everyone,

I just fixed it, and it was easy, and now Darius has mentioned that the Solo has no MIDI input it kinda makes sense.

I contacted Overloud and they said "In the Audio settings of TH-U that you can find by clicking on the Settings button in the top left corner of the TH-U window, then Audio Settings, you should check your FCB1010 in the “active midi input” menu."
This led me down the right path because although not strictly true it was close enough. The active MIDI input is Focusrite USB MIDI and for some reason, probably due to the Solo not having any MIDI function, the checkbox was greyed out.

I've also noticed that anything that the Solo hasn't got that the 18i8 has, is grey out if it was checked before. Always learning eh?

All sorted now, thanks for your time folks smile.gif

Yeah, it's always a good idea to contact the vendor when possible. Usually, they can get you an answer in short order if the company is worth a darn. Then again, just posing a question in the forum can often get similar results smile.gif Glad it's fixed!!

Plus, with the forum it might help others wink.gif

It seems that everything the the 18i8 has but the Solo doesn't, gets greyed out in TH-U when you connect the solo and doesn't get re-initiated when you hook the 18i8 back up.

That's good to know wink.gif

Cheers
