When i remember it correctly Muris said that he was able to play Maiden Songs after 5 years of playing the guitar. So this is a lot of time. The second thing i want to tell you is that you are not alone with this problem Ok i didn't made a hole in the wall with my guitar but there are times where i have to put my guitar in the bag and make a break. Well you know what -> in my opinion this is a normal behavior. I go often in the gym and train my body and guess what after 6 or 7 weeks of working out i have to make a break for at least one week. That is necessary to getting better believe me. So here are my advices for you: Stop playing the guitar for a week or so and make other things which you enjoy. Go out with friends, meet girls get your mind free and don't think about the guitar problem. After this week start with easy songs or things that makes fun. I know you like Metal so find a cool song that you really like and learn it and jam to it. Play while you stand in the room and head-bang as much as you can you will see how much fun you will have and your problems are gone. Than you can start to practice your alternate picking again. I got exactly that - minus the hole in the wall but barely mind you - not that long ago when learning a flamenco piece. I would play it over and over ... then I would play it some more until I nailed it. Day in day out. I am a perfectionist. This may not apply to you but I found that I sometimes have to break the cycle and play something else. When I go back to the main piece I play it way better. I think I am going to just wait a week until my metronome comes in and give it some time, then I'll get back to it.....now how to hide this hole.... I don't know if this will help, but I just remind myself that times like this will pass. If our practice is focused and we are concentrating properly, then progress is assured. Sometimes we grow as musicians in ways that we can't see or feel at the moment, but the growth is happening nonetheless. You may want to take a break if you feel it's right and come back to it with renewed enthusiasm. Think about what your playing was like a year ago....I'll bet the things that gave you a headache then are easier now. Anyway, I hope it all works out for you...good luck. I am playing for way more than 10 years now and i am still crappy but i always got that feeling that i have to continue after a while. I decided more than once to put the guitar down forever. But a few weeks, or months (actualy more than a year) in the worst case, i always have the urge to get back to playing. The last demotivational moment i had just a week or so ago. I was practising sweeps for the MTP and i got so frustrated that i nearly throwed everything out of the window. I had to edit my assignment videos and cut all the swearing and f-words out. Luckily that lasted only a day and after that i felt that i made a big step forward. Its weird but sometimes i feel like learning more by putting the guitar away. Its like my fingers need time to get used to it while not doing it So, as already said here, its natural and sometimes good to have such things happening now and then, it helps you evolve.
