Hello friends! Welcome to the blues edition of the "Connecting Melodies" Workout!!

This one consists in connecting melodic lines over a backing track that I will share here.
In other words, this means that we'll be creating a song together.

It will be very interesting to listen to melodies we create by connecting guitar lines and by being influenced by each other. I think that this experiment can be a very rich experience for everybody.

Besides the backing track I will also provide a word or phrase that reflects the feeling that we would like to convey while creating the melodies.

How does this work?

1. I share a backing track and a word which reflects a feeling.

2. The first participant (A) downloads the backing, records a '2 or 4' measures melody/arrangement over it and uploads an audio with the whole backing and his take. (please share an only guitar file for future mixing)

2. The next participant (B ) downloads participant's (A) file and records a 2 measures melody next to (B )’s take.

3. Participant ( C ) downloads (B )’s file and does the same.

4. We keep building the tune by extending lines and melodic ideas together

Some rules and suggestions:

- The melodies / arrangement should last 2 or 4 measures and can be created with guitar, vocals or other instruments.

- I will give 10 days to play each backing until we discuss the result and start with a new one.

- Remember to allow downloads If you use Soundcloud.

- Save original files in your computer! We might want to re-mix it later.

- Please upload a file that only contains your guitar to let me do experiments.

- Don’t be shy. This workout is appropriate for all levels: BEGINNERS, INTERMEDIATE AND ADVANCED.

- Feel free to contact me if you need help with recording, mix down and uploading the files.

I went for a very basic tone, just a Tweed amp and a bit of reverb and my Tele.

the problem with this , is, trying to narrow my take down to 2 or 4 bars . several times i have started jamming to this and the next thing i know, i have to start it over, there are times when any note will work

It is tricky and I always extend my final note over more time to help blend the licks a little bit but it does teach you restraint and how to be economical with your note choice. Most of the time, less is more so learning to say a lot with a few words is priceless imho. wink.gif

okay , earlier is this thread I said sometimes it seems like any note will work , so ,let me put my guitar where my foot is ( in my mouth , probably ) . You choose the note and I will make it work ( and I just don't mean a passing note ) but a sustained note out of the normal key

Yeah!! Great job Cael and JST!! This is turning really cool! Let's make this one big! Feel free to participate as many times as you want, but always letting other GMCer add a take before you repeat your turn.

Who's next???
