Hi,

I'm using a line 6 toneport to record stuff, and I was wondering if It's possible to get Reaper to digitally capture (as opposed to with a mic) music that I'm playing on my computer along with my guitar.

I was hoping to jam on some of backing tracks here, and then post them and get some feedback. if its a legal issue with the backing tracks, then I would still like to do this with normal music.

also, If I have to make a backing track from scratch. whats the best way to start? Does GuitarPro do this? I've been thinking about getting that for a while.

thanks,

-Chris

Toneport doesn't allow to record stereo mix of the sound from your computer. Here's what you can try tho, connect a cable from phones out of the Toneport to Line In 1&2. This patch should give you abbility to record sound from a computer, but didn't ever try it so, don't blame me if somethings fails smile.gif

Also you kind kindly ask for a backing on the instructor board and maybe they will give it to you.

thanks for the response and tips.

But I was hoping to record my guitar through my toneport into Reaper, and then put that on top of a backing track that I simply streamed from the internet (GMC). And then be able to play it back in Reaper

Is this possible or is what I am saying complete nonsense? huh.gif

It's not a nonsense, because I know what you mean smile.gif

You can't do that unfortunately but you can kindly ask instructor to give you the backing if he wants, and then import it to reaper. Downloading backings from the site is not allowed, and also giving backings is something you should not practice often, only if you are in real need of it, instructor can help. You are encouraged to make your own backings.

Just ask the instructor who made the backing politely in his personal board to share it..I'm sure he will help you! smile.gif Than you can just import the track into Reaper.. wink.gif

Thanks for the responses

I might have to get a few just to see how they are made

If i were to get a backing track from an instructor
would I get a chance to see the "nuts and bolts" of the backing track in reaper?

Or is it just a plain old music file?

It's a plain old music file exported, but if you want, I can guide you through the backing track making process step by step. Also tonymiro made some great tutorials on Reaper, search it on the forum.
