Been revisiting early Marillion lately. Their first album was the bomb. I dont think I appreciated just how good it was back in the day.

That album has been on heavy rotation for me as well! E took a few listens to really sink in. They do check off a lot of boxes but somehow manage to make it all sound cohesive.

I feel that they were very under-rated too. Plus they were like our 'local# big band. Market Square Heroes is written about their town of Aylesbury which is less than 20 miles from me!!

And I was 20 miles from Aylesbury too, but in a different direction! And Steve Hogarth lived in the next village.

Now you guys mention it, Fish was born in Dalkeith which is only about an hour away from me....... We could form a 'just down the road' Marillion tribute band! smile.gif

Gotta love ENSLAVED. Who else could play Death Metal and shift right in to a Wardruna Style Bit, and make it work? Probably, Enslaved, and maybe the guys from Wardruna as some of them used to be in Gorgoroth smile.gif

In the "IT"S A SMALL WORLD AFTER ALL " category, the first band HEILUNG has a singer named MARIA FRANZ. She is the one who wrote this song (VINDA) sung here by KATI RAN who often plays as a guest in Ghaals "Wyrd" which features Ghaal who also used to sing in Wardruna which features Einar Selvik who also used to be the touring Drummer in Gorgoroth (which of course was led by singer Ghaal). Also, Einar joined up with the singer from ENSLAVED and did a project called Skuggsjá And around we go smile.gif I noticed the connection with a couple of vids you posted (Heilung and Enslaved). If you get deep enough in to this type of music, you will keep coming up with many of the same names over and over. They all know each other, most are pals, and most guest on each others music projects smile.gif

Happy to share some info smile.gif Yeah, the scene is just a bit smaller than it seems imho. Especially in places like Norway which are not large countries to start with. It ends up being very tight nit and everyone knows everybody else and plays on their projects and such. It's cool that there is such a sense of community smile.gif It seems that has faded here a pinch as live music in general has taken a hit over the past many years.

Here is a Metal band that manages not to be a "CORE" band. I like their previous bits a bit better (even though I hate being that guy "I like their old stuff"). It's a great example of a band that can play and a singer that can actually sing. I'm sooooo tired of cookie monster all the time every time and sooo many core bands. Anyhoo, here is SAVAGE MESSIAH (sadly I think they used one of those name generators for their band name as it's a pinch cheeseball)

Here is their track HELL BLAZER!

Just realized why this lick sounded familiar, I made something similar before I ever heard of these guys. They are sorta playing a lick that I would probably play as well. Small world. here is the one I did. I'd almost swear that lick is in BOOTCAMP somewhere smile.gif

From 'Lykaia' by Soen. Cant get enough of this album at the moment. If you've not heard them and are into a Tool / (Damnation) Opeth kinda vibe then def worth a listen.
