I don't know the amp that you are using, but this is a problem that many amps have. Specially a lot of those modeling amps sound VERY good in clean modes, but as soon as it comes to high gain stuff the sound is not really that great anymore. A lot of people also make the mistake to tweak the gain to the absolute maximum, which only results in a muddy, completely overdistorted sound, when you want to record distorted guitars you should experiment a bit with your level of distortion. Set it to a rather low setting, record a track, and the double it. You will be surprised to see that the sound gets much more powerfull again and seems to me more distorted that it actually is.

Well you want to try to make a distortion sound on your amps lead channel..Just experiment more with EQ and Gain settings starting from flat positions...Main things is as Marcus said , not to overdo it!

Marcus is 100% right, and I agree, while recording it is often much better to record with less overdrive than usually (while playing) and then double tracks. It really makes the sound bolder, and lot more defined and concrete.

The problem may not even be the amp it could be how you're playing.

hehe, true, the more takes you record, the more precise you will have to be, otherwise the recording will be very chaotic and not tight anymore.

Pretty much all of Muris' lessons are recorded through his Pandora though aren't they? Not sure what a pandora is buddy, but it sounds like it's atleast a tube preamp. |
