I started going to a new church recently and on Sunday I played bass at that church for the first time without going to Wednesday rehearsal. We went over each song Sunday AM and played them about 1 hr. later in service.

The drummer is going to be out next week. The music minister overheard me say that I can fake my way on the drums (which means I can hold 4/4 time and throw in some simple fills) so he asked me if I'd mind sitting in for practice Wednesday and performance on Sunday.

It will be the first time I've ever played drums outside of my bedroom. ph34r.gif

Funny thing you say that man. Where I play guitar at my church, they are in need of a drummer also so our music leader that plays is gonna teach me! laugh.gif

I'm pretty lucky. The current drummer is very minimalist and just keeps the simple beats, so I won't have big shoes to fill. At my last church, we had an awesome drummer. I'd have hated to fill in for him.

I wish you good luck!

Playing various instruments really broadens one's musical perspectives, so I like the idea!

Well, I went to rehearsal last night. The first song wasn't bad, straight 4/4 with a moderate tempo.

The second song was out of my league. It was a medley with lots of stops and tempo changes. After we practiced it a couple of times, I learned that we're not doing that song on Sunday. BIG relief.

Next song was in 3/4. Hey, that's cool, I can handle 3/4 on the guitar. ph34r.gif I tried to come up with the simplest beat I could and hung on.

I think all-in-all that I did pretty good for the first time I've ever played outside the bedroom. Now I'm just nervously checking my e-mail for a kind note that says I suck. laugh.gif

Haha, I'm the same way. I like to mess around on drums but it is nothing technical. If it's any consolation they have asked me fill in on guitar at my church a few times, I showed up with the King V twice and they haven't asked me back in a while tongue.gif

I'm sure you did/will do fine though.
