Hi everyone, I've been here about a month now, and have been trying to apply some new techniques to my playing.
I saw someone (Caelumamittendum?) mention how they used Guitar Pro as a compostion tool and thought I'd give it a go. I was surprised at how quick and easy it was so consider me a convert, it's great as a practice tool and gratifying to see your solos written out. That's another 70 euros to spend once the trial runs out, GMC can be expensive! Anyway, I've uploaded the track I'm trying to apply the lessons to here https://soundcloud.com/user-698852492/agrar...=social_sharing I've attached the GP files and a PDF too of the guitar solo. That's what I aim to play, but might not match exactly. It's pretty rough and probably a bit sloppy. So, based on the solo, what lessons would people recommend? It's a Dm thing, and I switch between natural and harmonic minor and throw in a few chord tones. I'm trying to move away from my usual fallback of rhythmic blues/chromatic and trying to add in more scale runs. Sweeping and tapping isn't really my bag, though. So far I've taken a few ideas from Dark Blues Rock licks (https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Dark-Blues-Rock-Licks/) andsome from Guido's 30 phrases (https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Guidorist-My-Top-30-Phrases/) Is there a lesson that covers a few of the 'rock cliches', like that fast 17,12,15,12,14,12 pull off sequence you often see (like in Battery by Metallica)

I know you are mostly playing around in minor/aeolian, but I always enjoyed Muris' lessons, such as this one:
https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/phrygi...loing-beginner/ Then there's a harmonic minor lesson by Muris too: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guit...-for-beginners/ And sometimes just some basic pentatonic licks thrown in can be gold: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guit...cks-beginner/¨ Staying in the land of the Muris, there's this gem: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guit...r-melodic-solo/ Bbm minor solo: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guit...asing-beginner/ I think one of the key points here is also to look at some of the compositional building blocks of the lessons/solos. How are phrases repeated and expanded, similar rhythmic choices throughout the various phrases and so on. I think you already do this kind of thing in your solo, so the path is already laid out great for this kinda thing. As an example here is a quick "rhythmic analysis" of the "Harmonic Minor for Beginners" solo done here: (You probably have to click the pictures to see them larger - or right click and choose "save as" or "open in another tab") You can of course also look at harmonic structures, chord tones, tension, release and so on to get an idea of how Muris approaches that. I've just run very quickly through the first few bars here: Guido has some valuable lessons too in this area, and you can do a similar approach to the "analysis" I did just above: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Epic-b...lassical-Music/ https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Melodic-Rock-Solo/ https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Beginner-Ballad-Solo/ https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Melodic-Pop-Solo/ This post has been edited by Caelumamittendum: Dec 12 2021, 05:45 PM |

if you want something a little harder https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/MartyF...adoofSoulsSolo/ Maybe something between the two difficulty levels, I've got enough technique to play early Sabbath guitar solos, for example. It's a great Megadeth solo, unfortunately there seems to be no tabs available, perhaps due to copyright reasons. Shame as a lot of cool licks in it, and it's really nicely constructed. |

I think the last 4 links I shared for Guido's lessons land in a spot that might be where you are - or that can push you to improve. Some of his other lessons are great too of course. Of the four I posted links to, I think this is my favorite: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Epic-b...lassical-Music/ |
