Hello Lcsdds (I'll call you bob, that's shorter )
I saw in Smells' post that I'm in your group, and that's good news I'm a "friend" of Jesse (MSN friend ) So I followed your thread a bit, seemed very neat! A bit about myself: My name is Kaz, and I'm 15 and a bit. I have played many years, but not ver efficient. I got a spanish acoustic 3/4 when I was about 8, my dad learned me some chords and I played very few times a month. Oktober 2007 I bought an electric guitar, and I started to play some serious guitar. If people ask me how long I've beeen playing, I say a bit over a year, or a bit shorter then one and a half year. I know play every day, but not hours a day. My motto is, have fun with your guitar, then you'll be motivated. This is also how I practice, no schedule, just jammin! It might not be very efficient, but with a schedule I have no fun at all, and I loose motivation. I know all the ins and outs about GMC, I've been around for quite a while, and I'm almost part of the wallpaper here My skills: Solo = beginner intermediate. I play lessons here that are level 4 and 5. I can do legato (weird.. I don't really practice that, but i can pulll it of..), AP, little sweeping and tapping, but I'm not very much into tapping. My vibrato could use some help Chords= not sure how to expres this. I can play all normal chords. All minor and major without peaking, and also some 7th chords, but others I have to look how to play them (I don't find this a big problem). I can play barre chords, no problemo. I think I can actualy say my chord skills are quite ok Riffing: It's not like I riff and awful lot, but I think I'm ok with it. I can play metal rhythms no big deal. fingerpicking = I'd like to work on this. Not full time, but a bit more then i do now. I can play the intro of under bridge, but not on speed. I think fingerpicking (especially acoustic) can be really cool theory = I know the minor pentatonic (and with relative minor, I can do the major). So minor and major are all fine. I don't remember the exact places of all the root notes, but I've known the penta for over a year now, and I make all my solos in it, so atm I can fly through the boxes quite well. Now comes the time where I miss some extra notes, so I started on the blues scale. I know the blue notes int he first box, and I use them a lot, but I am/was to lazy to learn where the blue notes are in the other boxes. I also know how to play box 1 and 2 from the major scale. ATM I'm very much into Satriani. I can play Always With Me, Always with You, until the hard legato parts start, and I'm learning the intro from if I could fly, but that's not gonna be a problem. I'm always in need of songs to learn, I just don't know enough of them! As for styles, I love blues and rock. I'm into melodic solos, and I really don't like senseless shredding lesson I dig are (for instance) Mark Knopler finger picked solo (muris), In the style of Steve Lukather (muris again) and Gab's Rock lessons. There are more lessons I love, these just came up I hope this helps and for movies, my YT link is HERE. I also have a singing video online, just PM me if you want a link to that one. I use a POD GX for recording (toneport device) with POD farm. I can record MP3 quite quickly, but I don't like shooting videos Takes a lot of time for me. I don't have a webcam, so I need to setup camera, film, sync, produce etc. etc. BTW, I'm fine with learning theory, but I think that gives you a new task, kicking me under the but, because (not sure why) I suck with learning theory, I just don't give a lot about it. But I use penta aalwaays so i know it's important This post has been edited by kaznie_NL: Feb 24 2009, 03:43 PM |

I never count when playing solos, and I'm not planning to do either. My timing is just fin (I think that's a fair comment) and you can check on the boogie collab as a little example, which isn't the easiest rhythm. |

Ok, I'll get busy on your assignment this afternoon, cause I share this computer with my bro, so i can't use it untill the afternoon. I'd like to get my solos up to speed, but I want to play them melodic. For instance the Steve Lukather lesson would be super cool to learn, but I think it's to hard for now. i hope to shoot the canon in D somewhere next... Year Cool Kaz. I want to see you challenge yourself so Mr. Lukather it is!! Here ya go!! https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guit...r-style-lesson/ In my opinion the only way to learn these more difficult lessons is to just do them. If you get to a lick you are having a tough time with you make an excercise out of it and get to work with a metronome until you can play that part up to tempo!! Let's say the first 5 bars by Saturday shall we? You are good with your bends so these bars should be right up your alley. If you have questions or need help let me know. Good luck Kaz and good lesson choice!! |
