hey, i've been sweeping lots lately and i really have trouble with my right hand when 'changing direction' on the G string when there's only one note like this:

E----10~7--------------7--10~7-------------7-----etc..
B------------8-------8---------------8------8------------
G----------------9-----------------------9----------------

i've been practicing it where after the pulloff i do upstrokes on the B and G string and then quickly go back to the B with a downstroke.. Does any one else have any suggestions?? would it be easier if i changed to downstokes just before the G string?

That is very individual. I prefer to change to downstroke after the G string, but others I know always alternate pick 3 string arpeggios.

You mentioned two ways you've tried. The most efficient one of those would be to change to downstroke after the G string, because then the right hand motion is the smallest. It's a larger jump to start each downstroke on the G. You might get a more groove going on downpicking the G though. I am sure that equally many would do one or the other. The most efficient is not always the best for you, not at all.

I think you should play it very slowly, and see what your right hand does and what it wants to do. There is no best way, and no way to tell what would be easier for you. Try and see how your hand likes it

cheers i think playing the G with an upstroke will be the best way for me, i just need to practice it until it's not so awkward i might consider hammering on the B string...

I would do that starting the downstroke movement on the g string, but it really doesn't matter as long as you feel that you are doing it on a consistent way,

Also the technique sometimes changes at different tempos, so try it very slow and faster
