When improving your playing one must practice many different techniques. First check out Chowy's new lesson, "Andy Timmons Inspired Modal Soloing", and then post a reply to today's topic. Do you ever sing along with the melody? How important is it to sing/hum along with your playing?

Before I use to not sing melodies. But now I do and it's helped me become a way more "melodic" player.

Musical instruments were designed out of nature and the human body so you can't go wrong biggrin.gif

I definitely think it's a good idea! smile.gif You first have to hear the music in your head, sing it and then play it on the guitar biggrin.gif

Ramiro showed it in the video chat some little time ago, I definetly want to try it too and see what happens. Luciana has a lesson on this btw.

For me, it helps to sing everything I hear and I even replicate the sounds. I even make the "chug-chug" sounds of a distorted power chord. All of this helps my inner musicality as well as internalising all the musical material and helps me to appreciate sound, as I do a ton of music production work. I even record these weird noises as a basis for my tracks.

I haven't done it, I don't like my voice singing. I can hear stuff in my head sometimes, but I don't always organize it.

I'm sometimes singing, but always trying to "sing" it in my mind before play, at least the ending parts of phrases if something is fast.
