Hello!
I've been thinking of getting some monitors to listen to my pandora/pod/toneport, but I have a doubt whether I should get passive or active monitors. What's the difference? Which one should I get? -------------------- Guitars:

Yes,well all the best studios haw passive monitors but, prices of the speakers and preamp are insane. So,active monitors should be fine.Best buy in my opinion is Mackie HR 824(there are not cheap $1000 a pair)but works great. You haw Adam A7 in that class. So Active is the way if you are just home studio recorder.
here is the site for the Mackie http://www.frontendaudio.com/ProductDetail...roductCode=2843 -------------------- |

Hello! I've been thinking of getting some monitors to listen to my pandora/pod/toneport, but I have a doubt whether I should get passive or active monitors. What's the difference? Which one should I get? Are you gonna connect them straight to Pandora/Pod or to your PC? Anyhow, active monitors are easier to connect which means less cables. -------------------- Youtube

Also just to add, the active's bi-amped power is matched to the speaker as well.

Thanks guys, I'm glad I asked because I need active ones then, as I don't have any separate amplifier.
Edit: I'm going to connect them straight to the pandora/toneport, though I might consider connecting them to the computer too sometimes. This post has been edited by Fran: Aug 21 2008, 01:36 PM -------------------- Guitars:

Go definitly with active monitors , you don't want to hustle with passive ones You can connect your devices directly with no problems..Sound will be very good! Also I guess it doesn't hurt to listen to music and other computer stuff on them (though it won't sound exactly same like it would on a standard hi-fi system).

It is definitely recommendable that you buy active monitors, because you get all in one package. They are a bit more expensive, but a much easier option for home use.

Do you guys with monitors use them for general listening to music/watching movies too? Would they be something that you'd only want to plug in when it's time to work in your DAW or use with your amp modeller, or is it cool to use them for everything? And you wouldn't have to crank them right up to get benefits would you? I use my actives for everything. Games, movies, music, guitar. -------------------- Guitars: Schecter Stiletto Classic, Jackson SLSMG, Ibanez RG-380 Japan, Gibson Les Paul Studio

Try active monitors, and also remember that amplifiers are a ver fragile thing.
