Yeah you answered , you should practice with a metronome some exercises using especially those fingers.I'm sure there are lessons for that already at gmc.You should start very slowly and increase bpm by 5-10 at slow tempos and as you go up lower the increasing rate to 2-3 bpm at a time..Once you hit the tempo on which you are not comfortable and can't play it clean just back off few bpm to a comfortable one and stick for some time there before attempting to go on a higher level..Just to remember to try playing "not comfortable" tempo regularly , because you will be able to master it pretty fast (in a day or so depending)..
Regarding metronome problem , hmm why do you find it hard to hear if you're playing in time? Try adjusting guitar and metronome volume so you can hear both clear. Also its good to watch the metronome (its flashing LED or animated needle) to have a visual reference of tempo not just the audio one.Once you are playing in time with the metronome you will hear everything blend in (your picks and metronome clicks) Here is a very good metronome lesson if you haven't seen it before : https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/how-to-use-a-metronome.htm Cheers mate -------------------- For GMC support please email support (at) guitarmasterclass.net

Definitely playing slow and with precision. This is the only way to achieve precision on faster tempos as well mate.
