Hi Gab, here is first try for the minor pentatonic assignment. I really tried to connect those Gm pentatonic shapes on the fretboard and not only stay in one area.

Great job Tom. This take shows that you are exploring the scale and that you are focusing on creating phrases. You need to continue experimenting on this direction, and also check the complementary lessons to add licks and ideas to your vocabulary.

Keep on rocking!

Hey Laurent! Congrats on this really warm improvisation! I can say that it's one of the best solos I've heard from you. It's very cool to hear, very tasty, not only your phrasing, also your tone. This must be a very inspiring improvisation for other students working at this workout, congrats friend! smile.gif

Hi

thanks for the comment Gabriel, this made me happy

about the tone, it barely a guitar only tone, only add a reverb and thant's all, the guitare used was an Epi LP studio with seymour duncan pickups.

like the previous on, this is my best solo, yes , until the next one ? smile.gif

I just listened to some complementary lessons you recommended Gab and here is a new take with one of the backing tracks from these lessons. This time its Am pentatonic ...except 3 notes from Aminor scale - it simply sounded better biggrin.gif

Beautiful! This is the direction Tom! That's the best you can get from GMC lessons, inspiration to develop your own voice on guitar! This is the most musical solo I've heard from you, congratulations! Keep going on this direction, continue exploring phrasing and also expression techniques.

Hi Gabriel

I use almost Gminor Melodic, the Backtrack is in Gminor too, the chord prog is Gm7, Gm7, Gm7, Gm7, Cm7, Cm7, Gm7, Gm7, Eb9, D7#9, Gm7, D7#9:
i try to use some minor harmonic to give it an oriental taste in on phrase, to figure the presenc of our foe

i use my habitual setup, as:

- €piphone Les Paul Studio with Seymour duncan Slash, d'adario flat wound string & ernie ball hybrid setup, i love this axe
- ART TubePac as preamp
- Boss Gt100

played with fingers

effects are :

- a tube scramer
- a reverb with vibrato
- an equaliser
- a little delay

happy to know you loved it !

Laurent

Improvisation Course - MODULE 2 - Complementary Lessons

Hey guys! We have completed the Module 2 so now we have a new "complementary lessons" week.

We won't take the "week" word the course seriously and we will see it more as Assignments. Why? Because I prefer to go deeper with this topics to be sure that you are the most of each one. As I noticed that you didn't have time to check and work on the complementary lessons for Minor and Minor Pentatonic scales, the next task is to dedicate this week to learn one of this lessons and provide one or both ot f this recordings:

- Playing the lessons as it is. You can also share this video at REC.
- Record and improvisation over the backing track with variations of the lessons licks combined with your own ideas using the concepts covered.

This is the list of possible lessons, please choose one at your current level:

Minor Scale:

Here's assignement 1 of impro course (2'26'')
https://soundcloud.com/user-280506716/improgmaj/s-4soSZ

With false notes due to my habit playing other scales, a passage of "Hey you're out of the tempo what are you doing ?" and some passages of "I've nothing to say but I play anymore". smile.gif

My guitar tone isn't the best one...

I made the file private I hop you can listen it.

Hi Alex! I copy here what I've commented at the mentoring program first. (let's continue here!)

I'm glad to see that you are working on the improvisation course!

This moment is to explore the different elements covered so this audio is totally successful. You've tried to create simple melodies and phrases. There are some moments where you play wrong notes, and some other moments where your rhythm is not going with the backing so pay attention to this details in future recordings.

Before you go to the second assignment I'd like to suggest you doing some voice - guitar connection. The idea is that you sing along with the notes that you play. At first, you'll have to sing a bit (millisecond) after the note sounds, but with practice the idea is that you do it simultaneously.

The second part of the task should be done once you are comfortable with the first one and it's based on singing a phrase, and then playing it. You should be able to do it over the backing... you sing a melody of 4 notes, and then you play the 4 notes....

Practice this for 3 days and let me know how it goes.

Deal?
